Industrial Powered Vehicle Deaths
By: Neil Monday
Problem
•Last year there were 245 deaths in the U.S. alone from Industrial
Powered Vehicles.[1]
•One company was fined for 1.39 million U.S. dollars due to a
fatal forklift accident.[2]
•20,000 injuries annually[3]
•Downtime
•Disability pay
•Sick leave
•Medical bills
•Not only do people suffer, but equipment and other goods get
damaged due to Industrial Powered Vehicle accidents.

Problem
•Careless and/or uneducated operators
•It is easy for forklifts to become commonplace and are taken for
granted.
•Blatant disregard for safety procedures.
Problem
•Two major types of deaths resulting from Industrial Powered
Vehicles.
•Crushing or pinning are terms often used to describe accidents
where a pedestrian is killed.
•Overturns usually result in the death of the operator being
killed by an overturned vehicle.[1]

Ideas
•Cars that drive themselves are currently being researched.[1]
•MIT has developed a prototype car with $400,000 of
equipment.
•Early warning sensors such as short-range radars are being used
now in many automobiles with anti-collision technology. (Volvo,
Mercedes, and Honda)[2]
•internal traffic rules
•traffic lights
•pedestrian crossings

Ideas
•There could be two different configurations for this system.
•fully autonomous vehicles
•eliminate rollover accidents
•help prevent collision accidents
•assisted vehicles
•human drivers assisted by array of sensors
•help prevent collision accidents
Customer
•System could be marketed towards companies that use Industrial
Powered Vehicles as an add-on to their current fleet.
•This could also be marketed towards IPV manufacturers as a fully
integrated solution.
