State of implementation
• Development of national version of NACE
classification is starting, Statistics Sweden is
supporting the process
• Implementation in Business register and
business statistics survey to start in 2014,
followed by national accounts in 2015
Specific issues encountered with the
activity classifications
• Non-mandatory nature of surveys in the country
• Institutional independence of Geostat and official adoption
of classifications (now through the government)
• Involvement of other agencies: scope, extent and
coordination
• Development of national classification: trade-off between
the interest for needed information vs. information quality
(non-mandatory surveys)
• Decision on parallel running of two NACE versions: how
long to keep both versions in which areas (business,
statistics, national accounts)
• Recoding: one-to-one and one-to-many relationships
Issues related to time series
• Preliminary decision is to keep double coding
for at least one year in both business statistics
and national accounts surveys
• Dual coding will be used based on EU and
national correspondence tables
• Recalculation planned for 3 to 5 years back
