Wine Tasting • Tasting 1: appearance, color, aroma and palate. • Tasting 2: sweetness, acidity, fruit flavors, wood, body, tannin, alcohol and overall balance. Eight Steps to Tasting Wine • Check unpleasant smells • Pour a small amount of wine into the glass (about1/4) • Hold the glass against a white background and look at the wine • Check the appearance and color of the wine • Hold the glass firmly by the stem and swirl the wine in the bowl. • Place your nose close to the glass and take a good sniff • Take a mouthful of wine and roll it around in your mouth • Taste the wine to see if your palate confirms the analysis you have made on the nose.
