With 12 Faculties
44 undergraduate study programs
36 000 students
1 700 academic staffs
Internationalization of Academic
Programs:
• The curricula would be of international quality or
international benchmark so that degree obtained
would be accredited, validated and recognized
anywhere.
• Internationalization of curricula could also be
accomplished through integration of international
issues, concerns, problems or events in the course
content as well as the area-comparative approach in
the teaching of issue-based courses.
Dimensions of Internationalization
Internationalization of Academic Programs:
• Academic mobility
• Joint study programs
• Broadening curricula
• Sharing of technological advances
• Inclusion of Global Skills and Competencies
Structure of Curriculum
• UNESCO:
Four pillars of education:
– Learning to know
– Learning to do
– Learning to be
– Learning to live together
Curriculum Development
• In 2006, Diponegoro University received a
grant from Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
• As part the grant is curriculum development
for all undergraduate study programs in the
University to match with the
internationalization of curricula which will
lead to internationalization of graduates
Academic Standard
• Ministry of National Education has regulated
that undergraduate study programs across the
country must have not less than 140 credit
units and not more than 144 credit units to
accommodate graduates’ competencies

Standardization subject
• As Diponegoro University has had an MoU
with National Body of Standardization,
standardization subject is recommended to be
included in the curriculum of undergraduate
study programs in the University to result in
supporting or other competencies
• Forms of learning:
– Hardskills
– Softskills
Positioning of standardization course
as hard skills:
• As a compulsory subject for all students in the
department
• As a compulsory elective subject in one
discipline’s concentration
This subject or course must appear in the
curriculum and the suggested load is two
credit units
Positioning of standardization course
as soft skills:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
embedded in other courses

Workshop:
• To raise awareness and understanding the
importance of skill and knowledge in standard
and standardization among academic staffs
and to train future lecturers a workshop was
conducted in cooperation with National Body
of Standardization
• Workshop was attended by representatives of
all Faculties within the University
Results:
When the implementation of new curricula were
started in the first semester of September 2007:
• two departments in the Faculty of Engineering have
had standardization course in their curricula
• the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has
put this subject into at least of department
• the Faculty of Law is introducing this knowledge by
general lecture and embedded in some courses
• the Faculty of Fisheries is embedding this subject
into several courses
Curriculum update in 2012
• This year process of curriculum review and
evaluation is being under way again to
prepare revised curriculum to be
implemented in September 2012
• This is a good moment to propose
standardization skills and knowledge to be
included in the curriculum of more disciplines
in the university
