Factories across Japan are temporarily closing to lessen the
impact ofJapan’s electricity supply problems.
日本海嘯重創汽車工業，包括豐田、日產與本田等日本主要車廠，為了
評估災後損失，已經宣佈今天開始全面停產，由於還不知何時可以復工，
預計很快全球將出現缺車潮
The shutting down of electronics, auto and other plants is
expected to have a major impact on Japan’s economy and
could affect the global supply chain.
同時，日本陷入了能源危機，許多重要產業也因此癱瘓。包括汽車大廠豐田，
電子大廠索尼和東芝等等，都表示，因為供電吃緊，將配合無限期停工
Electricity supplies have been inadequate following the
quake, and the chairman of a Japanese industry federation
says enterprises will do their best to reduce usage.

To support electric companies in their efforts to
provide electricity, enterprises will do their best to
use their own electricity-producing equipment.
為了支持電力公司的供應能力，企業會致力運用自家發電設備
Toshiba says it will temporarily close units it has for
manufacturing personal computers and TVs.
電子大廠東芝，14號表示，將暫時關閉旗下生產個人電腦和電視的工廠
Flash memory production won’t be affected. NEC Corporation
has decided to close two of its offices for at least two days.
不過，製造快閃記憶體的部份，將不受影響，照常運作。而NEC
也決定旗下的兩間辦公室，將至少關閉兩天。
It’s not just electronics companies that are affected.
Semiconductor companies and auto manufacturers like Nissan,
Mitsubishi, Honda and Toyota have announced plans to
suspend operations.
不只電子產業、半導體受波及，汽車大廠日產NISSAN、三菱、本田和豐田等，
也不約而同宣佈歇業。

The earthquake is impacting Japan’s total auto industry.
Toyota Motors plans to extend its suspension of
operations at all of its factories in Japan.

Japan exports 4.8 million vehicles annually, one-third of which
go to America. Since the dates for factories to resume
operations are unclear, there’s a chance that supplies will run
short as early as second quarter.
日本每年外銷480萬輛汽車，其中有三分之一是輸往美國，由於各大
車廠復工日期不明朗，分析師預估今年最快第二季就會出現缺車潮。
Japanese component manufacturers are also temporarily
closed, which will have an effect on Taiwan.
日本端的零組件配套廠停工，預計台灣方面也將受到連帶衝擊
There are some beneficiaries, however, as business could pick
up for American and Korean auto manufacturers if people revert
to their vehicles instead of Japan’s.
倒是美國與韓國車廠可能因為替代效應而受惠
