The subject of this unit is on group coordination.
Note the kind of attitude and tone of language
you take when you are in the position of a team
leader.
John, Mark, Gary, and Thomas are in the
department discussion room. They are talking
about a presentation that they are giving as a
group next week. Gary is the group leader for this
presentation.
Gary: Aright everyone, Thanks for coming. As you
all know, the presentation is in one week.
The purpose of this meeting is just to make
sure that we all know what we are doing
and also that everybody is on the same
page.
Gary:
Gary: I know it’s already late and we’re all tired,
so let’s try to finish this as quickly as
possible. Mark, your part is history
overview, why don’t we start with you?
Gary:
Mark: Ok. I think I’m pretty much all done with my
part and it was actually easy and
straightforward. It’s basically just about
doing the research. This product has been
around since the 1990s and each version
change had been well logged and
documented.
Mark:
Mark: Some versions even had detailed
documentaries of their specific modification.
All I had to do was some cut and paste
editing and minor adjustments.
Mark:
Gary: Good. Sounds like you got all covered.
Gary:
Mark: Oh, and I also made some arrangements
this week to talk with some of the senior
employees who have actually used the
older versions. I’m sure getting their firsthand experience would give us some
interesting input.
Mark:
Gary: Excellent. How about you, Thomas? How
are you doing?
Gary: 太棒了!Thomas那你呢?如何?
Thomas: I think I’m done with my part, too. I had
to work very hard, but I finished It.
Thomas:
Gary: What difficulties have you encountered?
Gary:
Thomas; well, making comparisons between
versions is the easy part. And finding
out why every version is better than the
last was still not that difficult. But
the hard thing is to make the
comprehensive analysis that would show
the disadvantage of all of them in order
to convince people that this radical
change we propose is necessary.
Gary: Yes, I understand, especially when some
members of the audience we plan to give the
presentation to are those who developed it.
Gary:
Thomas: And, it not like the company was losing
money.
Thomas:
Gary: Well, that’s where I come in. My job is to
convince them that with this new measure
we are developing, our production rate
would improve drastically and we could do
that three-quarters of our current cost!
Gary:
Thomas: That does sound very intriguing.
Thomas:
Gary: Of course it does. As amazing as the idea
sounds, it is totally practical. The result I got from
the simulator would be able to back me up.
John: Yeah, just remember to write yourself a
memo “give John those results”.
Gary: Oh, sorry John, I’ll make sure to give
them to you first thing tomorrow
morning. How are the other charts and
graphics?
John: All the statistics that you guys sent me
were made into visual aids. I’ll do
my best to make sure that they come out clear
and concise.
John: Gary
Gary: Thank John, you’re the most artistic one in
the department and you sure know your way
around those graphic software.
John: It’s a walk in the park. Hey, since I have
the easiest job, I can help anyone
who needs an extra pair of hands.
John:
Gary: Great! Why don’t you
come and help me run
those numbers? I still got
about a couple dozen sets.
John: Sure.
John: 好。
Gary: Thank a lot! So I think we’re done here.
Make sure that all materials be
sent to John before the end of the week
so he’ll have time to put them in a neat
format. Thanks everyone, I’ll see you all
tomorrow.
Gary:
All:
All:
Bye.
