Status of the Finite Element Models
First model complete






Mesh is symmetric and
looks good
Stress distribution is
realistic
Mesh convergence study
complete
Stresses acquired,
incorporated into report,
and compared to Excel hand
analysis. Error is larger than
expected, however I’m
preparing explanations for
the deviaton.

Status of the Finite Element Models
Second model still in work








Gear is meshed however needs
some tweaking
Contact stresses look reasonable,
but not quite finalized
Decided to reduce to a static
analysis to simplify the model. Excel
analysis has been updated
accordingly.
Input load must be changed to
match other analysis
Further cuts will be made to reduce
mesh to a single tooth pair.
Once I have results from this model,
a great deal of the unfinished
sections of the report can be
completed.

Moving Forward
Currently slightly behind in schedule
Completion of the second model and finalizing graphs and
data next week is main goal


