SUMMARY: Over a hundred Junior ROTC Cadets arrived at the University of
Wyoming in the early brisk Saturday morning of October 3rd. These high
school Cadets participated in the Raider JROTC program where they received
top notch training to mold them as leaders for their high school career, college
career and eventual military career. The Cadets and Cadre members were
greeted by the University of Wyoming Cadets who had prepared the previous
week for their arrival.
To begin the day, the high school Cadets participated in the modified
physical fitness test. This test consisted of a one minute pushup, one minute
sit up, and one mile run. Cadets, prepared for this day and attacked the
modified test vigorously, performing well. The UW ROTC Cadets and UW
Cadre graded and administered this test for the Cadets.
After the initial test, the JROTC Cadets heard about the different options
available to them after high school and they were exposed to the enormous
amount of resources available for scholarships. They heard from passionate
speakers in the Army Reserves, Army National Guard, and from the UW
ROTC Cadre. These high school Cadets were presented with the options
they had after graduation provided that they worked hard at their GPA,
physical fitness, and engaged in their community. The high school Cadets
then went to lunch at the Washakie cafeteria and took a campus tour.
After this, the high school Cadets jumped into activities led by UW ROTC
Cadets that tested their leadership, physical fitness, and problem solving skills
in the Leadership Reaction Course (LRC), Obstacle Course and One Rope
Bridge. The high school Cadets worked together and supported each other to
complete each event and get a competitive score. At the end of the day,
Cadets formed up for the awards ceremony. The teams that performed the
best in each event were awarded with trophies and the overall winning team
this year was: Air Academy High School.
