A guest ask for their check
Go the cashier and ask for the check
Go through the check to see all items are correct
Put a pen and the check in a check holder
Put the check-holder on a service plate
Place the closed check-holder in front of the host
Let the guest examine the bill
If the guest wants to pay the credit card, put the credit
card in the check-holder

The steps in taking beverage order
10. After the card is processed, bring it back to the guest
for signing
11. Verify the guest’ signature and the card
12. Give the credit card back and the copy of the receipt

Important phrases
• Specialties (in restaurant) = certain food items that are
freshly made or avaialable on that day or week
• Starter = another name for the first course of a meal
• The main course (entress) = the biggest part of the meal,
such as meat or fish
• Run out of [something] = that item is finished or used up
and there is no more left
• Ingredients = the different food items used to make a
certain dish

Remarks
• Some guests include a tip for the waiter on their credit
card payment voucher
• Others may leave a cash tip on the table

Important phrases
• Process a credit card = take certain actions to make sure
the card can be used
• Check = a statement of the money that has to be paid for
something
• Verify = make sure something is accurate or true
• Tip = a special sum of money given to waiter for their
service
• Change = the money returned to someone when the
cost of something is less than the amount given by that
person as payment

• Work in a pair
• Create a dialogue between a waiter and a guest. The
situation is the guest is settling the payment using credit
card, but the credit card is expired. Instead, the guest
choose to pay in cash.
• Bid farewell to give a nice impression
• Role-play the dialogue with your partner
