Purpose:
To provide technical assistance to division leadership
teams to maximize support provided to focus schools

Division Requirements

Collaborate with an external Virginia
Department of Education (VDOE) contractor
(division liaison)
Convene a division leadership team including
representatives of:
– Title I
– Instruction
– Special education
– English language learners
– Principals of each focus school
Meet as a division leadership team on a
monthly basis
Develop, implement, and monitor a division
improvement plan that is aligned with the needs
of each focus school
Participate in quarterly meetings with focus
schools to review data and make decisions
about needed technical assistance
Modify division improvement plan on a
quarterly basis based on data analysis

Convene a school leadership team including a
member of the division leadership team
Utilize a VDOE-approved adaptive reading
assessment program to determine student
growth at least quarterly
Utilize the Algebra Readiness Diagnostic Test
(ARDT) provided by the VDOE (required only for
focus schools with grade 5 or higher)
Develop, implement, and monitor a school
improvement plan
Develop an intervention strategy for all students
who have failed an SOL assessment or failed to
meet the fall Phonological Awareness Literacy
Screening (PALS) benchmark
Regularly analyze a variety of data points to
make strategic, data-driven decisions, and
implement the needed interventions for
identified students
Modify school improvement plan on a quarterly
basis based on data analysis

• Unpack the “big picture” by identifying, teaching, and
cultivating a series of “main things”
• Believe keeping a compass on the “main things” is
paramount to the success of the school improvement

continued need

• Schedule opportunities to monitor the progress of the
improvement plan by:
 Meeting monthly to record progress, analyze data
 Recording team meeting minutes and agenda with

objectives
 Sharing information about the plan with stakeholders

Anticipate modifications to the plan (in real time) by asking and
documenting:
 How will the team know if a student intervention is not successful?
 How will the team know if a task is not successful? What data will be

 How often will data be analyzed at the school and division level?
 Who makes decisions about revisions to the plan?

 Discuss Indistar® Improvement Planning (school and divisionlevel)
