HENRY HUDSON
By A.J. Buzynski
Henry Hudson was an English sea captain. In 1609 the
Dutch hired him to sail out to China. The Dutch also
sponsored him
On his first voyage he thought he found the
Northwest passage, but he found a river. It is
called the Hudson river today.
Then he sailed again in 1610. They got farther than last time so he
wanted to sail farther into the unknown land.
He kept sailing farther and farther. He sailed so far the water froze. They
couldn’t go anywhere so he was trapped for the winter.
Finally the waters unfroze. They hopped in very small boats and rebelled
again.
They thought they were safe, but they got lost and were never seen
again.
His impact was that they found the Hudson Valley and in 1624 the Dutch settled
there.
