Sarah: I actually read this book in it's original French which, due to the poetic and technical
nature of Fermine's writing, probably alters the quality of the book. I have read his other book
"The Black Violin" in English, however, and it was also wonderful. Fermine writes in sparse
simple prose resembling the snow and haikus, his main character's obsessions; he writes with
an existential passion reflecting a sort of Japanese French lit fusion.
Sakura87: 'Neve' è la perfetta dimostrazione di come combinando l’esterofilia con robuste dosi
di filosofia new age e un pizzico di poesia si riesca a costruire un bestseller tradotto in
numerose lingue e che può vantare accanite schiere di fanatici ammiratori (al momento in cui
scrivo, circa millecinquecento aNobiiani italiani l’hanno letto e almeno uno di loro l’ha usato
come bomboniera di nozze -sic!).
Neve è la delicata storia di un poeta giapponese, tale Yuko, che decide di non seguire la
vocazione religiosa che il padre –monaco- desidererebbe per lui, e di assecondare invece la
propria vena poetica: Yuko possiede infatti un’innata sensibilità per la neve, che lo spinge
spesso a isolarsi in montagna per comporre haiku (un genere di poesia breve tipico del
Giappone del XVII secolo, costituito da tre versi rispettivamente composti da cinque, sette,
cinque sillabe) che abbiano come soggetto proprio il candido elemento naturale.
La visita di un dignitario dell’Imperatore che sostiene che le sue poesie manchino di colore lo
convince a recarsi da un maestro, un ex samurai un tempo poeta di corte, per sottoporsi a un
addestramento che gli consenta di maturare e di diventare lui stesso poeta di corte. Seguiranno
un viaggio in mezzo alle Alpi giapponesi, l’incontro con il corpo di una splendida fanciulla
occidentale intrappolato nel ghiaccio, la sua formazione al servizio del saggio Soseki -la cui
storia sarà lungamente narrata da un servitore- che gli insegnerà qual è la cosa veramente
importante.
Lascio scoprire a voi l’originale morale di questo libretto di cento (minuscole) pagine scarse.
Anzi, no. Ve la riporto qui, tanto l'autore non lascia nemmeno spazio alla fantasia del lettore per
arrivarci da solo e gliela spiattella senza ritegno:
"Ci sono due specie di persone.
Ci sono quelli che vivono, giocano e muoiono.
E ci sono quelli che si tengono in equilibrio sul crinale della vita.
Ci sono gli attori."
E ci sono i funamboli
Sono dell’opinione che tentare d’imitare la filosofia di società millenarie per trarne
insegnamenti d’applicare alla mentalità odierna e porsi dunque come moderni hippies che
predicano letterariamente lo zen, l’età dell’acquario, una pagana comunione con la natura e
altre simili filosofie che sono rispettabilissime finché rimangono nel loro contesto, sia
semplicemente ridicolo.
Maxence Fermine è solo uno degli ultimi pronipoti di un genere di letteratura pretenziosa che fa
capo a Hesse, seguito a ruota da personaggi come Coelho, Bach, Baricco (ma non sempre), i
quali guarda caso, almeno a giudicare dalle vendite, sono sempre al top nella classifica di
gradimento degli italiani. Fermine è dotato di un innegabile talento espressivo, che sciupa con
metafore o descrizioni di una banalità imbarazzante, unite a una storia praticamente inesistente
e infarcita di quel didascalismo che mi fa sempre venir voglia di scrivere all’autore per
chiedergli di restituirmi personalmente i soldi. I temi sono sempre quelli: la libertà individuale,
l’importanza di seguire i propri sogni anche rinunciando a una sicurezza di vita, la bellezza
della natura e, poiché come si sa è un argomento che tira sempre fin dalla notte in cui i primi
due ominidi scoprirono che era possibile copulare, vi inserisce anche qualche riferimento
sessuale crudemente descritto in un paio di righe:
"Si addormentò, con in mano il sesso eretto, come un peperoncino rosso."
Questi ultimi mi hanno ricordato certi poco spirituali amplessi coelhiani per la loro stonatura nel
contesto poetico e quasi mistico.
Banale dalla prima all’ultima riga, qualcosa di questo libretto costoso e fumoso (senza arrosto,
siatene consapevoli) vale la pena di leggerlo: gli haiku. Non quelli di Fermine, ma quelli posti a
inizio di ogni capitolo, scritti da veri poeti giapponesi passati alla storia per aver saputo trarre
poesia in tre versi da eventi od oggetti apparentemente privi di significato del mondo che li
circondava. Ma, a questo punto, acquistate direttamente i libri di haiku.
Vi lascio con uno degli haiku che ho composto io stessa in onore di Neve:
[Inverno]
Giù nel camino
quest'inutili fogli
bruciano lenti.
