Task, Condition, and Standards
TASK: To perform a search of an EPW, recognize the 5 S’s, and what
is meant by them.
CONDITION: Given a block of instructions, a demostration, and
reference material from FM 7-8.
STANDARD: To correctly perform a search of a EPW, and answer
Check on Learning questions correctly, and be able to discuss the 5 S’s
and distinguish between each.

• Start from Head to Foot
• Inspect any area susceptible to
hiding important information:
- Head, Kevlar, Collar
- Underarms
- Waist Line, Crotch
- Inner leg, Ankles
* Inspect equipment if time permits.
•Ensure to segregate between:
- Rank
- Sex
- Military Association
