Without controlling access and securing aircraft/airports there would be more acts of violence in the U.S. TSA The events of September 11, 2001, changed airport security. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was formed and became the governing agency for airport and airline security. TSA Responsibilities: -Provide screening of passenger and baggage prior to flight -Oversee security programs of both the Airport Operator and Aircraf Operator -Disseminate sensitive security directives to Operators, as needed Airport Responsibilities: -Ensure safety and security of Airport facilities and airfield - Ensure compliance with Federally mandated safety and security directives. They are: Air Operations Area (AOA) 135-AOA SIDA Sterile Area The 135-AOA area is (p.6): Main ramp where commercial air taxi operations are conducted The SIDA areas are (p.7): Part 121 Air Carrier ground operations area Baggage make-up area at the terminal Air cargo operations areas & parts of air cargo buildings SIDA definition (p.7) “Security Identification Display Area” is that area identified in the airport security program as requiring each person to continuously display airport-approved identification media, unless that person is under airport-approved escort.
