AIRPORT SECURITY
Unlawful acts against civil aviation include hijacking, aircraft sabotage,
bombings and terminal assaults. Without controlling access and
securing aircraft/airports there would be more acts of violence in the
U.S.
TSA
The events of September 11, 2001, changed airport security. The
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was formed and became
the governing agency for airport and airline security.
TSA Responsibilities:
-Provide screening of passenger and baggage prior to flight
-Oversee security programs of both the Airport Operator and Aircraf
Operator
-Disseminate sensitive security directives to Operators, as needed
Airport Responsibilities:
-Ensure safety and security of Airport
facilities and airfield
- Ensure compliance with Federally mandated
safety and security directives.
Air Carrier Responsibilities:
- Move passengers safely and efficiently.

III. SIDA & Other Restricted Areas (p.9)
III. Restricted Areas (p.6) means those
areas of the Airport where persons or
vehicles are not permitted to enter or be
unescorted unless authorized by the
Airport. They are:




Air Operations Area (AOA)
135-AOA
SIDA
Sterile Area
The 135-AOA area is (p.6):
Main ramp where commercial air taxi operations
are conducted
The SIDA areas are (p.7):
Part 121 Air Carrier ground operations area
Baggage make-up area at the terminal
Air cargo operations areas & parts of air cargo
buildings
SIDA definition (p.7)
“Security Identification Display Area” is that area identified in
the airport security program as requiring each person to
continuously display airport-approved identification media,
unless that person is under airport-approved escort.

Pass a Criminal History Records
Check.
Pass the SIDA test.
Complete a badge application.
Stricter measures for SIDA access include a fingerprint criminal history
records check, SIDA training and applying for access.

VIII. Escort Authority (p.17)
Escort of unauthorized persons in the SIDA,
Sterile Area, and 135-AOA is permitted,

In the Secured Area (SIDA & Departure
Lounge), the person providing escort has valid
Airport ID with the “EA” endorsement.
In the 135-AOA the person providing escort
has valid Airport ID; no endorsement is
necessary.

IX. Violation of Rules (p.18)
