• I will make copies of the sheets you put your contact
information on. It is extremely important you keep in touch
with your classmates and with me so you don’t fall behind.

• Leave a message with Ms. Romero or in my mailbox if you
have any emergencies.
• Have your parents call in when you are ill or otherwise not
coming in. You need to request make-up work at that time.
Communication

Don’t send me an email that says “Here’s my email.” Your email
address may be something like– [email protected] but
seriously think about using the first initials of your name and last
name. [email protected] or [email protected] is much better.
You need to include your name, the class name and the period you
are enrolled in. Do this no later than August 25th. I am putting
classes into groups . . . 10 point assignment to establish
communication. Print out my response when you receive it to prove
you did it JIC (just in case).
Taking Notes
• It is easier for me to see if you are taking notes if you
follow a prescribed method of taking notes. One of the
ways I have accomplished this in the past is by using
Cornell Notetaking. Yes, you do get credit for taking notes
because taking notes is part of the binder grade you
receive each month or so – I check up every so often.
Binder checks will be announced, but you should keep on
top of it so you don’t get caught empty-handed. A zero on a
binder means a letter grader (10%).

Notes about the binder grade
• For your binder to be graded an A you must:
– Have it on test day
– Have all assignments completed by test date.
– Have 3 pages for each section of notes . . . There are usually about 6-7
sections per chapter. You can get these from your neighbor, your
textbook or on-line at the school website http://www.taosschools.org/ths
– Definitions/Postulates & Theorems and any formulas from the chapter
must accessible.
– Warm-ups – come from the end of each section names “Mixed Review.”
– In-class project type work – things we worked on in class

First find the smallest and the largest numbers
• The least is 118 and the most is 998.
• Next find the range by subtracting the smaller from the
larger 998-118 = 880
• Next find the class width by dividing the range by the # of

QUESTIONS OVER HOMEWORK?
What if I’m absent . . .
• If you will be absent, you need to turn in your homework either
downstairs with Ms. Romero in my mailbox that day or hand-deliver
it to me when you return with a parent note telling me why the work
is late. -- if it becomes habitual (after 3), I require a parent
conference. If your absence is not excused . . . it will not be
accepted. If you do not turn in any work, expect a phone call home.
• I won’t take late homework. Daily stamped work is not worth a
whole lot anyhow. The test grades are worth far more. I have 166
students . . . I don’t have enough time to go back and grade these. If
you miss an assignment; you may come in after school and work on
it in front of me. Additional extra credit is sometimes available.
Extra Credit?
• If you miss any assignments – you may earn up to 2 extra credit
assignments by bringing in a box(es) of tissue – and not the tiny
boutique type. This offer is open until the end of August only.
• Thereafter, you will have to walk for our senior class in the Walk-aMile-in-My-Shoes Walk-a-thon for the Dreamtree project. $10 to
enter and you can find sponsors if you wish.
• Homecoming activities. We have the hallways, the float, the car
bash, the pep rally, and Powder puff. Dress up days will earn you a
little bit as well. Last day for homecoming activity EC is September
19.
