Russia as a tourist destination
is a transcontinental country extending over much of northern Eurasia.
At 17,075,400 square kilometres (6,592,800 sq mi), Russia is the largest
country in the world, covering more than an eighth of the Earth’s land area; with
142 million people, it is the ninth largest by population.
It extends across the whole of northern Asia and 40% of Europe, spanning
11 time zones and incorporating a great range of environments and landforms.
Russia has the world's greatest reserves of mineral and energy resources,
and is considered an energy superpower. It has the world's largest forest reserves
and its lakes contain approximately one-quarter of the world's unfrozen fresh water.
Russia is famous for its rich history, literature, painting, cinema and ballet.
.

most interesting towns
in the Moscow Region.
Undoubtedly, travelers
are attracted to Sergiev
Posad mainly by the
Holy Trinity-St. Sergius
Laura . This monastery
has been the biggest
religious and cultural
center of the Russian
state.
Pereslavl - Zalessky
Pereslavl-Zalessky, one of the
oldest Russian towns, was
founded, like Moscow, in the
12th century by Grand Prince
Yuri Dolgoruki. The greatest
treasures of Pereslavl-Zalessky
are its architectural monuments.
The oldest of them, the Cathedral
of the Transfiguration of the
Savior.
Highly impressive are the highroofed cubiform Churches of
Alexander Nevsky and the
Candlemas and the Holy Virgin
of Vladimir.
Kostroma
The Central district of Kostroma
comprises the buildings and structures
built in a classic architectural style
during the period between 1770-1830.
It's a fine example of unique,
monolithic urban architectural
complex. Kostroma is famous for its
wonderful architectural monuments,
Ipatyevsky Convent (16th-17th cent.)
and the Church of Resurrection on
Debra River (1652). Ipatyevsky
Convent is located in a beautiful
place, where the Kostroma River
flows into the Volga.
While traveling in the Golden Ring

center popular for its
painted trays decorated
with bright bunches of

and realistic still-life
painting.
Gzhel
There is a group of about
thirty villages located not far
from Moscow bearing the
name of Gzhel, which has
long been famous for its
white-burning clay. Gzhel
must have been the name of
one of these villages.The
modern art of Gzhel is an
active artistic trend with its
ups and downs, and with the
search of new ways.
Ski in Russia
There are more than 100 ski
areas around Russia. While
many of them are small,
with equipment and resort
areas that need updating,
there are some brilliant
exceptions in the Caucasus
mountain area, in southern
Russia. Thanks to growing
interest from the Russian
elite and from international
travelers, Russian winter
resorts are expected to
improve the level in the
coming years.
Mount Elbrus Ski Resort
When people think about
skiing in Russia, the
Elbrus region in the
Caucasus Mountains
comes to mind,
specifically in the Baksan
Valley. Here you’ll find
Mount Cheget, with its
five runs that give
experienced skiers a
challenge. Mount Cheget
is one of Russia's largest
ski areas, and the longest
run is 2,5 km long.
Dombai
Dombai is a mountainous country in
Kabardino-Balkatia (Russian North
Caucasus). The important part of
Dombai are the funiculars.
A pair armchair funicular almost
1900 meters in length and two towing
bow-collector funiculars build across
the slope of the mountain MussaAchitara (3 012m) are at mountainskiers and holiday makers disposal.
There more then 10 variants of slopes
of different difficulty, steepness and
speed, beginning from the top of the
Mussa-Achitara.
Sheregesh
If you are not a Siberian, you
will probably have the only
reason to go to Sheregesh: the
local snow, which is unique.
Starting from the beginning of
November until the beginning
of March there's at least 1 m of
high quality snow. The local
powder is dry and fast and is
considered to be the best snow
in Russia. However, the
snowboarders who decide to
go to Sheregesh have to
survive an 8-hour long way
from Moscow to Sheregesh,
the famous Siberian frost, and
the endless snow plains.
Belokurikha
At the end of the 20th century
the resort Belokurikha (Altay
Region) mastered a new
“specialty” downhill skiing.
The moment the snow covers
the land downhill, skiing and
snowboarding lovers rush to
Belokurikha from all Western
Siberia.
Altai Region
Altai Region is a federal
subject of Russia in the
Siberian Federal District.
It borders with, clockwise
from the south, Kazakhstan,
Novosibirsk and Kemerovo
Districts, and the Altai
Republic.
The region 's administrative
center is the city of Barnaul.
Geography
Altai Region has rolling foothills, grasslands, lakes, rivers, and
mountains. The climate is severe with long cold dry winters and
hot, usually dry summers. The regions main waterway is the Ob
River. The Biya, Katun, and Chuya Rivers are also important.
The biggest lakes are Lake Kulundinskoye, Lake Kuchukskoye,
and Lake Mikhaylovskoye. Altai Region has huge reserves of raw
materials, especial materials used for building, as well as
significant mineral reserves. These include nonferrous metals,
lead and iron ores, manganese, tungsten, molybdenum, bauxite,
and gold. Forests cover about 60,000 km² of the territory's land.
Altai mountains
The north-western and northern
slopes of the Sailughem
Mountains are extremely steep
and difficult to access. On this
side lies the highest summit of
the range, the double-headed
Belukha, whose summits reach
4,506 and 4,440 m respectively,
and give origin to several
glaciers.
Several secondary plateaus of lower altitude
are also distinguished by geographers. The
Katun valley begins as a wild gorge on the
south-west slope of Belukha; then, after a big
bend, the river (600 km long) pierces the
Katun Alps, and enters a wider valley, lying at
an altitude of from 600 to 1,100 m, which it
follows until it emerges from the Altai
highlands to join the Biya in a most
picturesque region. The Katun and the Biya
together form the Ob.
Lake Teletskoye is the largest lake in the
Altai Mountains and the Altai Republic,
Russia. It is one of 25 deepest lakes in the
world, having a depth of up to 325 meters.
Situated at a height of 434 m (1,424 ft)
above sea level, the lake is 78 km (48
miles) long and 5 km (3 miles) wide.
