Positive Coaching
Good Sportsmanship
Player Development
Why is it important for you,
as the Regional Commissioner,
to know the AYSO Philosophies?
What does each
philosophy mean?
Everyone Plays ®:
• Our program's goal is for kids to play
soccer –
so we mandate that every player on every
team must play at least half of every
game.
Balanced Teams:
• Each year we form new teams as
evenly balanced as possible because it is fair and more fun when
teams of equal ability play.
Open Registration:
• Our program is open to all children
between 4 and 19 years of age who
want to register and play soccer.
Interest and enthusiasm are the only
criteria for playing. There are no try
outs.
Positive Coaching:
• Encouragement of player effort provides
for greater enjoyment by the players
and ultimately leads to better-skilled and
better-motivated players.
Good Sportsmanship:
• We strive to create a safe, fun, fair and
positive environment based on mutual
respect, rather than a win-at-all-costs
attitude, and our program is designed to
instill good sportsmanship in every facet
of AYSO.
Player Development:
We believe that all players should be
able to develop their soccer skills and
knowledge to the best of their abilities,
both individually and as members of a
team, in order to maximize their
enjoyment of the game.
Who else in your Region should
know and support these
philosophies?
What have you done in your Region
to let your Regional Board,
parents, players, and volunteers
know what the 6 philosophies are?
What has your Region instituted
that supports positive coaching?
Player Development …
What can your Region do to
support Player Development?
In Conclusion…
The six philosophies even apply to
Regional Commissioners and
Regional Boards.
Everyone Plays ®
You are one of almost 1,000 Regional
Commissioners in AYSO.
Every Regional Commissioner has a
vital role to play on the “team” in
support of the Vision and Mission of
AYSO.
Everyone Plays ®
One of the key roles for an RC is to
encourage Everyone – Players and
Parents to Play AYSO:
- Players to play the game
- Parents to play a role – any role in AYSO as a registered
volunteer.
Balanced Teams
It takes a balanced team to deliver a
quality AYSO program.
The NBOD, NSTC and your Instructors are
here to support you and to help you build a
Regional “Team” will all the right skills and a
balanced workload so everyone can enjoy
the experience.
Open Registration
Interest and Enthusiasm are the only
“criteria” for recruiting volunteers as well
as players!
“Many hands make light work”
Positive Coaching
Much of the success of your Region will
depend on your attitude and the tone
you set for others to follow.
A little encouragement goes a long way
– even with adults.
Good Sportsmanship
Being a part of “Team AYSO” means
that everyone must work together
toward for the good of AYSO as a
whole.
Player Development
Make sure every volunteer receives the
training and support they need to
perform their jobs.
THANK YOU!
