143 Intro to Digital Photography: Syllabus
• COURSE FORMAT and SCHEDULE
• Lab Class Attendance
– This is where you can learn from watching the instructor
work with other students’ issues.
– The only source of information you can rely on for
projects, exams, etc. is information that comes from me
directly and a lot of that is during lab classes.
– For very specific times and projects I may allow you to
use “lab time” to work on your projects out of class. If I
do that I will need to know where you are and what you
are doing.
– And speaking of attendance…

143 Intro to Digital Photography: Syllabus
• CLASS ATTENDANCE POLICIES
• Grade Impact
– Attendance and Class Participation will be
noted and given a value equal to a project for
final grading purposes.
• Tardiness
– I try to start close to the start time. Being late
disrupts the class, is distracting to the others
and rude towards all of us. Three late
attendances will count as an absence for
grading purposes.
–

143 Intro to Digital Photography: Syllabus
• CLASS ATTENDANCE POLICIES
• Dropping the Class
– It will be YOUR responsibility to make
admissions aware of your drop. I will not drop
you automatically!
NOTE: This could likely have a MAJOR effect
on a grade since I MUST turn in grades for
anyone on my final roster that has not dropped
or withdrawn.

143 Intro to Digital Photography: Syllabus
• CLASS ATTENDANCE POLICIES
• Incompletes
– The District only allows me to give ‘incompletes’
for specific reasons, usually medical, or
sometimes work or family emergency related.
– I cannot create an incomplete at the end of
class. You must let me know at the earliest
possible time if you are not going to be able to
complete the class this session and are going
to need an incomplete.

143 Intro to Digital Photography: Syllabus
• CLASS ATTENDANCE POLICIES
• Incompletes (Continued)
– Incompletes will have to be made up within a
school year and the paperwork will define what
must be done by the student to make it up.
– The student cannot be in a situation where
they are already failing and remaining work
would not change that no matter how good it
was.

• DUE DATES and DEADLINES
– You will normally have two week’s time to complete
shooting assignments (though there may be some
overlapped projects). If you are having trouble tell me
BEFORE the deadline to arrange some accommodation.
– AFTER the deadline, if no permission was given to be
late, credit equal to about ½ point will be deducted for
every class day the assignment is late unless a true
medical or family emergency is involved.
– On the returned project I’ll note what you could have
received had it been on time and what you actually got
due to the late submission.
– Lesson here: Speak up as soon as an issue arises.

143 Intro to Digital Photography: Syllabus
• FINAL GRADES
– Final grades will be determined by adding all of your
accumulated points for all tests, projects, and
attendance, as a percentage of the total POSSIBLE
points. That percentage will yield a final letter grade as
follows:
100% - 90% = A
89% - 80% = B
79% - 70% = C
69% - 60% = D
59% - 00% = F

should be capable of completely manual
operation (focus, aperture & shutter speed).
Instructor: N. David King

143 Intro to Digital Photography: Syllabus
• REQUIRED EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES
• Tripod
– A tripod is not REQUIRED but it will make a
huge difference in image quality and may be the
difference between making some shot possible
or not. (We’ll talk about this in more detail later)
– If you get a tripod also get a remote shutter
release for your camera.

class so you do not have to be always transferring files.
