Of limited use to researchers. Searching SOLO: OLIS & Other Collections What can I search for? What can I search for? / What should I put in the box? •Titles (of books, journals, publications…). Note search for journal titles NOT article titles •Authors •Subject keywords Simple search by title / author To search for a specific title enter the most significant words from the title / author. SOLO will find items including all the words you have entered More information & “getting” the book For more info click on the title To find out where the book is or to order/reserve it click Getting it! To request a copy from the stacks Libraries which hold the item SFX: to check for online version (for journals) Stack requests University card barcode number If you don’t know your password ask at your library Narrowing down… Limit to a particular library or to online only If you’re looking for a common title narrow down your search using the drop down boxes Only look for words in the title, author, subject etc Only return items which include the exact phrase you entered. Limit your search to books, journals, audio-visual… Connecting to online resources To connect to full text Connecting to online resources Most journals are available from more than one database or supplier. Choose which one to use by looking at the date coverage and then click “Go”. Filling in the year, vol, issue boxes is optional! Look out for different “versions”. Different versions include different/newer editions and versions in different formats (e.g. online). These “versions” are hidden. To see them click Re-sorting results By default results are sorted by relevance. To see the most recent items first choose “Datenewest”. Refining your search by topic, author, date… Narrow down your results by choosing a topic, library, creation date or author. To see other items sharing the same subject click on the link You will also find suggestions to find similar items at the bottom right corner of every search screen Searching for e-resources You can search SOLO for eresources by title.
