• Total of 1,40,000 – based on initial budget/estimate (in 2004)
• Has not been revisited and revised for a long time now.
• Don’t have access to the earlier budget proposal.
• Used to fund the following for the school (not complete list):
• Daily lunch for the students
• Teacher’s salary
• Learning aids???
Updates for 2010
General Partner Updates/Updates for Asha
• Continuous care so automatically students enroll in primary/high school.
• Teachers from nearby places help with the school. Also, older students
return to help.
• Some other womenfolk from the village help in running the school by
helping with cooking etc
• 54 students in early childhood centre. 18 more students will join this year
– all kids less than 4 years.
• 4 kids going to reach 12th grade, 3 in the 9th grade .
Updates Contd.
* Teaching materials are very old and dirty. Also, the number of students has
increased. The school needs new materials.
* Some students drop out of government school because of lack of uniforms
* Books for those going to 12th grade and who are not able to obtain it
otherwise .
* The school currently has a tin roof. This needs to be replaced with a
concrete roof.
* Only 1 teacher for all the students

• Site Visit report from Aug 2008
• B.Ashok, his wife Jayashree, and kids visited the
school
• More “Pukka” roads than earlier in Senchiagaram
village
• Otherwise area similar to what it was in 2003-2004
• 28 kids were in school that day (total 30 – 35 kids)
• Kids performances
• Kids were healthier because of the meal program

• Some kids had grown up and joined the nearby
government school
• Mariamma, who is the current teacher, and who has
been at the school since its inception, continues to be
a steady factor
• Folks in the village proud of the school and the
students’ accomplishments

• Due to the asbestos roof, the classroom was very hot

• Learning aids procured in 2003 have undergone wear
and tear
• Mariamma, the only teacher, appears to be
overloaded. She could use additional help
• School needs more attention in terms of infrastructure
• More frequent Asha site visits recommended
• We have not been very consistent with sending funds
to them. Need to become more regular in that aspect
• We should continue the food program
