How to Create a PowerPoint Presentation Mrs. Leah Craft University of Mississippi NMGK-8 What is a presentation? Information that you have collected on a subject that you will show a group of people Steps • Select a Topic • Gather information • Create Outline • Then go to the computer Technical Terms • Slide – an individual screen in a slide show • Presentation File – the file you save to disk • Object – An element that appears in the presentation such as a picture, clip art, a graph, or sounds. • Slide show – a series of slides • Transition – a special effect that happens when a new slide is presented Everything else is an option Tool Bars Needed Standard Stuff Fun shapes Pictures Creating the Presentation 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Moving a text box • Click on the box you would like to move • A gray border will appear around the box • Place the pointer on the border • Hold down the mouse button and drag the box to the new location • Release the mouse Resizing the text box • Click on the box you would like to resize • A gray border will appear around the box • Place the pointer on the border • Hold down the mouse button and drag the resizing handle until the box is the size you want. Deleting a text box 1. Click the text box to select it. 2. Click the box's border and then click the Delete key. The text disappears, but the border remains. 3. Click the border again and press the Delete key. The entire text box is deleted. Adding Clip Art 1. On the Standard Toolbar, click the Insert Clip Art button. 2. The Microsoft Clip gallery dialog box appears. 3. Click the Clip Art tab. 4. In the Categories list, click Cartoons. PowerPoint displays clip art from the Cartoons category. 5. Click an image to select it. 6. Click the Insert button. The cartoon image is inserted on your slide. Note: Some AutoLayout slides in PowerPoint already have placeholders for clip art. To insert clip art into one of these slides, simply doubleclick the placeholder and the clip art gallery will open. Don’t forget that clip art can also be resized! Adding your own work 1. Click the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File. The Insert Picture dialog box will appear. 2. In the Look in box, find the drive and folder where the artwork is located. 3. In the File name box, enter the name of the file. Then click the Insert button. Other things to add • Charts • Graphs • Tables 100 80 60 East 40 West 20 North 0 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Qtr Qtr Qtr Qtr Column Row Cell Adding a transition • Choose the slide you want to have transition • Slide Show from the tool bar • Slide Transition • Choose from options Lets give it a try… Your options are endless!!!
