Four Ways to Add Records into your Library 1. Type

Getting Started
1. From Desktop, click the EndNote icon 2.
Select “Create a new EndNote library” (Say OK) 3. Save in: Desktop 4. Name it:
Yournametest.
Click “Save”
2. Export/Import
Two step process: 1. EXPORT Search database and save references.
(Save formats are on UCR Library website.) 2. IMPORT In EndNote,
File > Import
.

Check 5 records From the Citation Manager (bottom of screen): a. Select Field --Complete Reference b. Choose Format Result --

Check 5 records From the Citation Manager (bottom of screen): a. Select Field --Complete Record b. Choose Format Result –Direct Export c. Click Save Look in “Desktop.” Click on your EndNote Library. Click Open.

Tech Spec. on Direct Export
• Your browser has to know what to do with a .cgi file • Otherwise you can save the file and double click.
• Mac has more problems with this • If you change a filter, you have to maintain the exact name for DE (it is still using a filter)
4. Direct Search
• For some databases only • Library website has database specific instructions about connecting • Steps: From the toolbar:
Tools > Connect > Connect
Select database Search Select records and Click “Copy All References to”

In EndNote Library, from the toolbar:
Tools > Connect > Connect
Select “BIOSIS Prev-all-(OVID)1.” Click Connect.
Select “Keyword” from drop down menu. Type in search for
Caucasian bees
. Click Search. OK to Results.
Click “Copy All References to”…Choose Library, Look in Desktop, Click on your EndNote Library. Click Open.

Direct Search Caveats
• Test results against Web Interface.
• You will need a connection file. If they are not working as expected, call the Library.
• If working from home, you will need to connect to the Library
via
VPN.

Links to Online PDF
• When databases have links in the records, you can import them.
• If not, you can hunt them down and add them • If articles are not online, you can point to your computer • ILL and Scanning.
