Overview
• JBSDS Will be a Standoff Early Warning Biological
Detection (BD) System Capable of Providing
– Near Real Time, Detection of Biological Attacks/Incidents
– Early Warning of Biological Warfare (BW) Agents at Fixed
Sites or When Mounted on Multiple Platforms, Including NBC
Reconnaissance Platforms
– Standoff Detection, Ranging, Tracking, Detection and Generic
Discrimination (Bio vs Non-bio) of Large Area BW Aerosol
Clouds

• Protect the Force
– Detect a Presence of Biological Aerosols Consistent with a
BW Agent Release at a Detection Probability of 90 Percent
• System Performance
– Detect and Track Aerosol Clouds Out to 5km at
Concentrations of 1000 ppl
– Discriminate Biological Particles From Non-biological
Particles in Aerosol Clouds Out to 1km at Concentrations of
1000 ppl
– Operate at Fixed Site or From Mobile Platforms
– Operate in Conjunction with Bio Point Detectors
– Operationally Skin and Eye Safe
– Mean Time Between False Alarms (MTBFA) 168 hrs

Improved Increment I Technologies Provides Performance

Conjunction with JRO/Combat Developers to Validate CDD
