Welcome to Fifth Grade! Mrs. Ding Jaindl Elementary School Room 315 A little about me… This is my 15th year teaching in Parkland. My husband works at the High School and I have a son who is 5 years old. Schooling: – I graduated from Parkland. – I have my bachelors degree from IUP – A masters in Classroom Technology from Wilkes University. We look at PSSA scores, benchmark assessments given in the beginning of school, and on going classwork and observations. These groups/teachers will change periodically. ENCORE 9:50-10:35 Day Day Day Day 1 2 3 4 - Music - Gym - Art – Library Remember if we have a late start, the students will miss their encore for the day. If we are off from school, we continue with an uninterrupted daily cycle. READING 10:35-12:15 Whole group first to introduce skills Then focused work in small group – Graded during this time for effort and responses Same assessments as in the past (results not reported as percentages) – All assessments will come home in the Friday Folder – All assessments must be signed and returned. RECESS/LUNCH 12:15-1:00 Prices: – Student Breakfast is $1.10 – Student Lunch $2.35 Water is an extra. You can block the account from buying extras if you’d like. Peer Mediators meet during the recess time. CAF-TRAC Procedure: Please write the following on the outside of envelope (no plastic bags): – Student’s Name No nicknames First and Last – Teacher’s Name – Amount of Money being deposited* Checks made payable to PSD Cafe Account LANGUAGE ARTS 1:00-1:30 Grammar or Writing No writing Homework. Writing rubric will be sent home with writing pieces in the Friday Folders. Grammar is assessed through LEAD 21. MATH 1:30-2:45 Schoology – students will use to communicate mathematically with one another. Grades sent home in Friday Folders. – Multiple choice – online to view results – Open-ended portion - paper and pencil – All GoMath! Assessments must be signed and returned. CONTENT 2:45-3:15 Coordinated with LEAD 21 Grading: – Inquiry projects will contribute – Content area quizzes, tests, and additional projects – Reported twice a year Social Studies - Mrs. Ding Science – Mrs. Bodnar Tests Tests are announced via website and in class at least 2 days prior to the test. Also posted on classroom calendar for the month. In an effort to promote good study habits, encourage your child to review materials on a nightly basis. Study guides will be provided. Tests will be returned in the Friday Folder. Upcoming Dates: Wednesday, October 29th from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM at Schnecksville Elementary School Monday, November 3rd from 6:30 – 7:30 at Parkway Manor Elementary School Grading/Report Card 12 REGULAR HOMEWORK Spelling – coordinated with LEAD – 3 spelling assignments of their choice – Test whenever ready during the week using Spelling City – Week 4 = vocabulary week for middle school prep Book Log – 75min/week or 300min/month Math homework regularly Assignment Book Assignments are to be completed in a timely manner. – If an assignment is missing, a “missing” will appear in the book. – If an assignment is incomplete, an “I” will appear in the book. Missing or incomplete work will need to be completed for the next day. Each student will have a homework buddy. – **If your child experiences significant difficulty with an assignment/concept, please let me know via note or email. Thanks!! Friday Folder It will be sent when there is adequate amount of graded work. – All graded LEAD 21 and GoMath! Assessments need to be signed and returned. Please sign appropriate box each weekend to let me know you’ve examined the work inside. Return the following school day.
