Reference Materials for Mathematics and Science

• Consists of formulas, constants, conversions, periodic table, etc.

• Are used for grades 3–8 mathematics, grade 8 science, Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, chemistry, and physics • Are not used for grade 5 science or biology • Will be embedded in the paper test booklets and perforated so students can tear them out • Will be embedded in online tests as a pop-up window • May be printed from the TEA website and distributed to students to use during paper and online testing 22

• Paper tests will have blank space around test questions for students to make notes and perform calculations.

• Online tests will have new tools for making notes and performing calculations.

• Math tests will have graph paper embedded in the paper test booklets and perforated so students can tear it out. • Online math tests will have a new pop-up window of graph paper.

• Campuses may print copies of the graph paper from the TEA website and distribute to students to use during paper and online testing.

Calculators for Mathematics and Science

• A graphing calculator must be provided to each student taking the Algebra I, geometry, and Algebra II assessments.

• A scientific or graphing calculator must be provided to each student taking the chemistry and physics assessments.

• A calculator must be available for every five students taking the biology assessment.

• Will be embedded in online math tests as a pop-up window • A calculator must not be provided to students taking the grades 3–8 assessments unless eligibility criteria for an accommodation is met.

Checklist for Significant Changes The only results we will know in June will be the STAAR EOCs and STAAR L EOCS. We will receive raw score reports in June. We are still required to report these results to parents.

No results for SSI placement, other relevant academic information should be used to make promotion/detention decisions.

STAAR Spanish is available for ELLs in grades 3-5 who meet the specific participation requirements. ELLs not eligible for STAAR L or STAAR Spanish may be provided allowed linguistic accommodations on STAAR.

Four hour time limit. Testing will end at the close of a regular school day (exception for campuses testing more than one session). Do we want to have lunch break during the four hour time limit?

Checklist for Significant Changes Make-ups are available for all grades, all subjects, and courses. Available for all administrations.

Third grade students will record answers on separate answer documents.

STAAR Administrative Manuals-Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, and EOC. Campuses will keep manuals.

Techs must sign Technology Oath.

For writing: 4 th grade will administer ½ of multiple choice items and first prompt on Day 1 and Day 2 second half of multiple choice and second prompt.

For writing : 7 th grade will administer all the multiple choice and first composition on Day 1. Day 2 second and third composition.

Checklist for Significant Changes For English I, II, and III STAAR EOC assessments: Writing Component administered Day 1 and Reading Component Day 2. Scores reported separately for reading and writing. These tests will be the most challenging having 3 compositions in one day and short answers. New dictionary policy (see handout). Only 26 lines to the page. Test takers cannot double line. Will not score anything beyond the 26 lines. Short answer will have 9 lines and students an write below line 9 to be equivalent to 10 lines.

For math and science, tests will have blank space around test questions to make notes and perform calculations. Students can request scratch paper. Must be destroyed after testing. Graph paper will be embedded in the paper test booklets and perforated so students can tear it out.

Checklist for Significant Changes A graphing calculator must be provided to each student taking the math EOCs.

A scientific or graphing calculator must be provided to each student taking the chemistry and physics assessments.

A calculator must be available for every five students taking the Biology EOC.

For on-line testing, calculator will be embedded as a pop-up window. It is suggested that the student also have a hand held calculator.

No calculators for grades 3-8 unless eligibility criteria is met for an accommodation. This is not counting Algebra I at 8 th grade.
