2. Yodeling and Part Singing
Yodeling is a form of singing which involves repeated
changes of pitch during a single note.
Alpine yodeling was a longtime rural tradition in Europe,
and became popular in the 1830s as an entertainment in
theaters and music halls.

Yodeling is often played alternately with instrumental
music.

Schuhplattler and Bavarian Dances
„Schuhplattler“ is a dance. It is danced by men wearing leather trousers and
sometimes with women turning around. Men have to clap in their hands, on
their thighs and their feet in fixed sequences.

Are traditional music and dances still „in“?
All-over Lower Bavaria local costume groups try to keep traditional
dances alive. In cities they encounter more difficulties than in villages
due to the fact that lot of inhabitants are not originally from Bavaria and
that young people usually prefer other kind of music and dance.
Music groups experienced the same situation but the traditions are still
well alive and continue to be passed to the younger generation.
