parent/guardian is required to attend a

prior to the start of a student’s first

ACTIVITY BUS RIDERS
Did you know that ANY student who is

the sticker they need!
February 20th, April 16th, and June 10th.
Grades are cumulative for each semester.
Each semester also has a final exam or

semester grade. Finals will be given over
three half days.
LOST AND FOUND
Please note that items left in lost and
found will be donated at the end of each
grading period (6 weeks).
MESSAGES DURING
SCHOOL DAY
Messages and deliveries for students are
very difficult to do. We do not like to
interrupt classes for messages, lunches, or
other deliveries. If it is not an emergency,
we ask that you make other arrangements.
SCHOOL DRESS
Articles of clothing that have names,
pictures or symbols of alcohol, drugs,
sexual connotations, violence or gangs
may not be worn at school or to any
school function.
STUDENT ID BADGES
Board Policy #443.1 - clearly states that
all students will wear their student ID.
This is a school expectation we will
enforce. Please encourage your child to
wear their ID all day, every day! After
three reminders to wear/show their ID, if
lost, a new one will be made at the cost of
$5.00 to the student. Every student must

front upper torso above the belt line.
Please refer to the School Board Policy in

Immunization Requirements
In accordance with the 1983 WI Act 334, no medication shall
be given to a student by any employee of the school unless the
following are delivered to the individual administering the
medication:
It’s not too early to start thinking about getting your student
vaccinated to meet the state requirements for the 2014-15 school
year. The requirements for high school include:
1.

One dose of Tdap vaccine. This has been phased in and is
required for all students in grades 6-12. (This requirement is
met if a student has had a Tdap, Dtap, DT or Td within the
past 5 years).

You are asked to provide the dates of your child’s
vaccinations and if applicable chickenpox disease date to
the Registrar in the Student Service Office.
Prescription Medication - written instructions from the
prescribing physician for the administration of the
prescribed medication.
2. Both Prescription and Nonprescription Medication a written statement from the parent/guardian authorizing
school personnel to give the medication in dosage
prescribed by the physician and authorizing school
personnel to contact the physician directly.
These forms are available in our Student Services office.
In addition to the legal requirements listed, the following
should be noted:
1.
2.
All medication must be brought in the original bottle by a
parent unless previous arrangements have been made
with the district nurse.
Requests must be renewed each school year by the
parent/guardian (including the physician form) for the
student to be given the medication.
3.
It is the responsibility of the student to remember to come
in and take his/her medication.
4.
Any changes in dosage of medication must be in writing
from the physician. This information can be faxed to
school.
Left over medication must be picked up by the parent at
the end of the school year or the medication will be
properly disposed.
5.
Vaccines are available through your private physician or through
the Brown County Health Department (920-448-6400).
Families are encouraged to get students immunized as soon as
possible. This is also an excellent time to discuss with your
medical provider other recommended vaccinations for teenagers
such as meningococcal vaccine and HPV vaccine.

SENIOR INFORMATION
APPLYING TO COLLEGE
Technical school and college-bound seniors should
apply to the schools of their choice early in the fall;
hopefully during the months of October and
November. Applications should be submitted to
the Student Services Office so an “official
transcript” can be attached and checked to
eliminate errors and omissions. An official
transcript means a signed transcript is sent directly
from the Student Services Office to the selected
college. If it is an on-line application, we ask that
students complete a “release of information” so we
can send an official transcript. Letters of
recommendation and a student profile can be
attached to the transcript if required. Last year,
Preble’s Student Services Office processed
nearly 2800 transcripts and applications, so
please allow ten school days to prepare these
materials.

The ASVAB is a multi-aptitude battery of tests. It
assists the student in better understanding how they
compare to a nationally representative group of
individuals on skills important to their future training
and job performance. Taking the test does not
obligate a student to join the Armed Services.
Taking the ASVAB is free.
PSAT 2014 FALL TEST DATE
Please put Wednesday, October 15th, 2014, on your
calendar for next year’s PSAT test. This test is a
qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship
Competition. It is given periods 1-3 (sometimes goes
into period 4). The PSAT will be available on a first
come, first served basis to juniors only.

Suicide doesn’t usually happen out of the blue—there are often warning signs for others to see or hear. Know the signs.

seeking revenge
*Feeling trapped-like there’s no
way out
*No sense of purpose in life
Actions
*Acting reckless or engaging in
risky activities
*Withdrawing from friends,
family and society
*Increased alcohol or drug use
*Giving away prized possessions
Changes
*Decline in quality of school
work
*Dramatic mood changes
*Anxiety, agitation, change of
eating/sleeping habits
Threats
*Threatening/talking about
hurting self
Multiple factors are involved when someone dies by suicide.
Research suggests many factors contribute to suicide. These
include: biological factors, precipitating factors, and triggering
events. Examples of biological factors include mental illness or
losing a family member to suicide. Precipitating factors include
poor grades, or family rejection. Crisis/triggering event include
experiencing a major loss, humiliation or bullying, and having
access to lethal means.
Identifying mental illness or alcohol/other drug abuse
problem is significant.

The most common mental illness leading to suicide is depression.
It is also the most treatable!

Binge drinking is highly correlated with suicide attempts. 90% of
people who completed suicide had some form of mental illness and/
or an alcohol/other drug abuse problem.
Reducing access to lethal means can be very worthwhile.
 Limiting access to the means for suicide provides the most
significant drops in suicide rates. Most often, youth who attempt
suicide use a gun kept in the home.
 Contact Social Worker if interested in obtaining a cable lock.

is important that parents volunteer and
support the Parent Network. Parent
Network has managed the last couple of
years through the hard work and efforts of
a few volunteers.
