PREVIEW OF STEPS
1. Your hiring department adds you to the New Hire Checklist
2. Log-in to iStart and submit a request for Onboarding Appointment
3. Receive email confirmation of your request
4. Call the office (UC International) and make an appointment
5. Read your email carefully and follow the instructions:
•
Complete your Online I-9 Form
•
Print and complete the Onboarding Forms
•
Gather up the required documents:
• I-94 Form
• I-20 or DS-2019
• Passport
• Visa
6. Arrive on time for your appointment!
Being on the New Hire Checklist is very important –
You must be on the New Hire Checklist before you
can proceed.
Once your department notifies
you that you are on the New Hire Checklist..
- Now the Action Starts!
Now it is time to log-on to iStart and
fill out an eForm to schedule an appointment to
Onboard for your new position.
You will be completing one of the following eforms:
“Employment Eligibility Verification/Social Security
Letter: Receiving a UC Paycheck”
Or
“Employment Eligibility Verification/Social Security
Letter: Non-UC Employee”
Receiving a UC Paycheck:
• Your title would be either “Student Worker” or “Graduate Assistant”
This eform will be used if your job is with a UC Department
This may be either on Main Campus (west) or the Medical Campus (east)
or at any of the Branch Campus’
Example:
• Student Affairs
• The Residence Halls
• The Learning Assistance Center
• Public Safety – Night Ride
• Environmental Health
• Pathology
• The Libraries
• UC Information Technology
“Employment Eligibility Verification/Social Security Letter: Non-UC Employee”
• Non-UC Employee jobs are available at the following locations:
Main Campus
• Any of the restaurants in the on campus food court
Medical Campus
• Caminetto Euro-American Bistro
• Bearcat Lounge (Kingsgate Hotel)
• The Market Place Café
• Au Bon Pain
 Mark Pi’s
 Subway
 Starbuck’s
After you submit your eForm in iStart..
You will receive a confirmation email within 5 business days
containing Instructions on next steps:
1. Call UC International to Schedule your Appointment
2. Fill out your Online I-9
3. Print and Complete the Employment Forms

Next, you will need to print out and complete the following forms:
•Form SSA-1945 – OPERS
• The Ohio Ethics Law and Related Statutes Acknowledgment
• International Student Employment Compliance Certification
• Acknowledgement of Receipt of Auditor of State Fraud Reporting
System Information
• OPERS Request For: Optional Exemption as a Student
Before your appointment be sure that you have:
•
Your immigration documents:
Passport/Visa, I-20 and I-94
•
Your Online I-9 has been completed
•
You have printed and out completed all the necessary
employment Onboarding Forms
Lastly – Please arrive at your appointment on time
What will happen at your appointment?
• You will meet with the program coordinator
• The program coordinator will review your
documents
What will happen at your appointment cont.
• You will fill out your application for your Social Security Card
• You will receive an authorization letter to present to the Social Security
Office
• You will receive directions to the Social Security Office
• You will receive instructions on how to activate Direct Deposit
• You will receive information on how to handle tax matters
