Christmas
Lights
What’s your favorite thing
about Christmas ?
Presents ? Family ?
My Favorite Christmas
tradition is the lights.
How did lights come to
be associated with
Christmas ?
German tradition of
putting candles on trees
This lesson is to challenge
us all to be Christmas
Lights.
I.
Increased darkness makes
greater demands upon
God’s lights.
The world has sunk farther into
darkness than at any time
in modern history and is
getting progressively worse.
Sin, depravity and immorality
is not only being tolerated,
it is being protected.
Governments cannot legislate
and enforce morality.
Man needs God’s lights
in the world.
Philippians 2: 15
so that you will prove yourselves to
be blameless and innocent, children
of God above reproach in the midst
of a crooked and perverse
generation, among whom you
appear as lights in the world,
II.
We cannot choose
– IF –
we will be lights,
only if we will shine
Remember our text :
Matthew 5: 14
You are the light of the world.
A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
God deliberately placed YOU
Where you are to shine there
Matthew 5: 14
A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
To try to hide a light that Jesus
lit makes Him look foolish.
Matthew 5: 15
nor does anyone light a lamp and put it
under a basket, but on the lampstand,
and it gives light to all who are in the
house.
Ephesians 2: 10
For we are His workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus for good works, which God
prepared beforehand so that we would
walk in them.
Matthew 5: 16
Let your light shine before men in
such a way that they may see your
good works, and glorify your Father
who is in Heaven.
I John 1: 5-7
This is the message we have heard
from Him and announce to you, that
God is Light, and in Him there is no
darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have
fellowship with Him and yet walk in the
darkness, ....
I John 1: 5-7
... continued
we lie and do not practice the truth; 7
but if we walk in the Light as He
Himself is in the Light, we have
fellowship with one another, and the
blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us
from all sin.
John 8: 12
Then Jesus again spoke to them,
saying, “I am the Light of the world; he
who follows Me will not walk in the
darkness, but will have the Light of
life.”
Ephesians 5: 8
for you were formerly darkness, but
now you are Light in the Lord; walk
as children of Light
( cf. – I Thes. 5: 4-6 )
Eph. 5: 9–10
(for the fruit of the Light consists in all
goodness and righteousness and
truth), 10 trying to learn what is pleasing
to the Lord.
III.
You may be the only
light in someone’s life.
I Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen race, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation, a people for
God’s own possession, so that you
may proclaim the excellencies of Him
who has called you out of darkness
into His marvelous light;
IV. We must not become
discouraged when
those in darkness
do not receive light.
John 3: 19-21
This is the judgment, that t
he Light has
come into the world, and men loved the
darkness rather than the Light, for t
heir
deeds were evil. 20
For everyone who
does evil hates the Light, and does not ..
John 3: 19-21 ... continued
come to the Light for fear that his deeds
will be exposed. 21 But he who
practices
the truth comes to the Light, so that his
deeds may be manifested as having
been wrought in God.
Ephesians 5: 11-12
Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds
of darkness, but instead even expose
them; 12 for it is disgraceful even to
speak of the things which are done by
them in secret.
I Peter 3: 15
... sanctify Christ as Lord in your
hearts, always being ready to make a
defense to everyone who asks you to
give an account for the hope that is in
you, yet with gentleness and
reverence;
Will you be a
Christian light
