* What components of skill related fitness can
you identify in the short clip?
Agility
“The ability to change the bodies direction
efficiently and under control”
This can bee seen in most sports- a side step
in ruby, catching and passing on the move
Requires good body strength, fast reactions,
balance and coordination.
Testing
Illinois Agility Run Test
Performer is required to negotiate around a
course of cones as fast as they can.
*Research the Protocol:- Page 240
Balance
“A state of equilibrium or stability achieved
by keeping the centre of mass over or
within the base support”
Examples in sport include a head stand in
gymnastics or a skier weaving in and out of
slalom gates
Testing
Stork Stand Test
Performer is required to hold a static leg
balance for as long as possible.
*Research the Protocol:- Page 241.

How do you know if a test is Valid?
Coordination
“A balanced and effective interaction of
movements or body actions”
Requires effective combination of nervous
system and motor systems of the body.
Examples include maintaining contact
between stick and ball when dribbling in
hockey.
Testing
Anderson Ball Catch Test
This tests hand eye coordination.
Performer is required to throw a tennis ball
against a wall and catch with alternate
hands.
* Remember some sports require good foot
eye coordination
* Research the Protocol:- Page 242
Reaction Time
“The time taken from the start of a
stimulus to the start of the response”
Reaction time is affected by how quickly an
individual can process information and the
speed of conduction through the motor
nerve
You can improve reaction time through
practise.
Examples…..
Testing
The Ruler Drop Test
Performer is required to catch a meter ruler
with heir thumb and finger that is dropped
without warning.
Make sure they use their dominant hand

How do you ensure a test is standardised?
Exam Style Question
A defender in a team game has to sprint
for the ball, stop and then change
direction to mark and attacker. The
attacker moves towards goal and the
defender has to stretch to win the ball.
a) Define three components of skill related
fitness that have been used in this play and
state when they were used.
Different types of events in athletics require
different components of fitness.
Name two components of skill-related fitness
required by a 400 metre hurdler. (1 mark)
Name two components of health-related
fitness required by a shot putter. (1 mark)
