• “I gathered some great ideas for enhancing and updating Orientation for transfer students.” • “Coordinated, collaborative, transparent advising is a pivotal concern for ASU and the NC Community College System, along with the UNC system schools.” • “Jump start is a great program.” • “That transfer students need love too!” • “That we need to provide them housing opportunities” • “The significance of participating with intentionality on this problem/opportunity for us at ASU.” 12

Plans for the Future

Respond to the UNC Strategic Plan: Our Time, Our Future Host a Transfer Academic Transition and Advising Workshop – October 2014 • Analyze gaps to create a seamless transition for transfer students • Improve communication between Appalachian and the community college partners • Move from “theory to practice” • Include faculty/academic advisors from partner community colleges Host a Transfer Symposium – October 2014 • A new format to continue the conversation about transfer student success • Develop more awareness of transfer issues for targeted populations (i.e., military, community college transfer, early college) • Each track includes a student panel, plus faculty/staff who work with targeted populations from both the community colleges and Appalachian • Highlight accomplishments (i.e., funded projects and others) with poster presentations 2015: Focus upon a Holistic Transition Workshop or Symposium 14
