* Focus on your academics
* Get involved in school/community service
*Start researching colleges that you might
consider
* Talk to any alumni from high school about
their college experience
Factors to help you decide:
1) Private vs. Public (financial costs)
2) Location
3) Majors/Minors (variety)
4) Scholarship Opportunities (Academic &
Athletic)
5) Campus Visits
There is a college for EVERYONE!
*not 100% sure what you want to major in
*ease of transferring to a SUNY college
*saving money especially if you plan to
pursue higher education
* Did not reach full potential in high school
*Having more time to think of your options
without putting a hold on your college education

Colleges have several offices to help you with
your career once you have decided on your
major. Some examples include:
A) Job and Internship Expo
B) Resume writing Workshop
C) Importance of networking and experience
D) How to Prepare for a Career Fair
High School
College
1) School week is usually 30 hrs/5 days
1) College week is usually 12-15 hrs a
2) Classes meets every day-same time
week & 30+ hours studying
3) Classes are selected for you
2) Classes met 2 or 3 days a week
4) Teachers take attendance

*Start a List of colleges you want to visit -focus on what colleges may be
known for (Ex: Business and Nanoscience at UAlbany)
* Improve grades and extracurricular activities if needed
*Have a family email account for college information
*Contact Office of Undergraduate Admissions & Counselors (Interviews)
*Visit campuses ( Do not wait to do everything during Senior Year)
*Start thinking of teachers you want to get letters of
recommendations and Personal Essay Topics
* If you are interested in playing College Sports, talk to your coach now
and begin gathering information (ex. Videos to contact colleges)
