STATE OF THE CORPORATION
MISSION
Inform members of HR issues;
 Affirm members’ efforts through networking and

relationship building;

Develop members’ skills and knowledge to add value
for their organizations; and

Promote the Association and Human Resources
professionalism.
STRATEGIC INITIATIVES 2007-2009
All strategic objectives set for the current threeyear plan have been met!
 LCAHRM once again designated a Superior
Merit Award Chapter by SHRM for 2008.

STRATEGIC INITIATIVES 2010-2013
This fall, we begin crafting a strategic plan for
the next three-year period.
 Consider aligning our structure and our
program efforts with priorities established by
SHRM.
 Guidelines for preserving the excellent fiscal
health of the Chapter.

FINANCIAL REPORT

Budget July 2008 - June 2009:
 Revenue
of $48,550 vs. expenses of $57,115.
 Board accepted operating deficit, which was funded
from reserves, for the purpose of significant
improvements to the Chapter website.

 Balanced
budget of $54,850 revenue and
expenses.
 $5,330 added to revenue from reserves.

Investment Policy Statement:
 Over
the years, accumulated surplus.
 Board developed Investment Policy Statement
with Smith Barney Financial Advisor.
 Invested $42,034.98 in mutual funds (after most
of major market correction).
 Investment Committee - Jim Weischedel, Ed Krow,
Gary Duell, Mike Mohn.

Updated the quarterly newsletter.
Conducted survey of membership on newsletter.
Began research of e-newsletter option.

LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

Brown Bag Lunches:
 OFCCP
Who? Understanding Affirmative Action
Requirements;
 Ideas for Effective Coaching in Hard Times;
 Getting Down to Business: Reducing Labor Costs in
a Bad Economy;
 And a “bonus” on the impact of the Stimulus
Package on COBRA.
LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
 Informal
format allows swift reaction to current
events.
 Handouts usually posted on the LCAHRM website.
Legislative Updates section on the LCAHRM
website.
 Committee member attended SHRM Legislative
and Legal Conference in Washington, D.C.
 LCHARM was a sponsor of the PA SHRM
Conference in Harrisburg in April.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE


Bylaws change proposed by the committee and
approved by the membership to extend chapter
membership status for Members in Transition.
Membership continues strong!

Reviewed and approved membership applications
against membership categories as defined in
corporate bylaws.
Managed annual membership renewal process.
Conducted new member orientations after each
breakfast meeting.
Promoted benefits of SHRM membership to nonSHRM members.
Promoted the benefits of LCAHRM membership to
community at large.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE





Reviewed current terms of office and determined
interest in continuing to serve, and in what roles.
Analyzed representation to target recruitment efforts.
Solicited a pool of 5 candidates for 3 Director
positions.
Gathered information and assessed qualifications of
each candidate.
Recommended a slate of Officers and Directors for
the 2009/2010 program year.

Introduced ‘Frequent Flier’ program:
 SHRM
National Conference – Bob Bleecher.
 SHRM Membership – Stacy Myers.
Introduced book raffles at all seminars.

PROGRAM COMMITTEE
All 2008-09 monthly program topics were
selected based on members’ feedback.
 Extra free program in March, in response to
economic environment: Workforce Investment
Board services available to un- or underemployed.
 Eric Athey’s Legal Update: first monthly meeting
to top 150 attendees!!


But “the proof is in the pudding”:
 Total of 9 hours of HR Certification Instituteapproved recertification credit provided,
including 4 strategic credits!!
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

Requirements for
 $1,000 Member Scholarship:
 Professional
and General Members eligible.
 Must maintain 30 hours a week in HR-Related Capacity.
 Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in HR
related field.
 May apply each year.
 $500
LCAHRM Student Scholarship:
 Children/grandchildren
of LCAHRM Professional and
General Members.
 Pursuing an undergraduate degree.
 May re-apply each year.

F&M STUDENT CHAPTER

Organized a speaker’s panel & resume
workshop at F&M.

students attended.
 Rave reviews from students and presenters!

Internship section on the website works like our
Job Bank.
 Includes
information about F&M compiled by the
Student Chapter.
F&M STUDENT CHAPTER
Students continue to attend monthly breakfast
meetings, when school is in session.
 Met with students on campus 3 times during
semester to brainstorm and discuss how we
can best join forces.

NEW INITIATIVES IN 2009:
WAGEACCESS COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
SURVEY
 As a result of the need many members have for
good, reliable survey data at reasonable cost,
entered into partnership with WageAccess.
 Our partnership with WageAccess provides
members a significant discount: Members who
participate in the survey obtain one year of
online access for only $349.

As of 5/29/09:

companies have signed up for the survey.
 7 are in the process of entering data.
 20 have submitted their data.
 8 have purchased an annual subscription.
 $69.80 revenue share was issued to the Chapter
in April 2009 (for two purchases during first
quarter).
