Moving From The Curb
Into Traffic
-Check your view of oncoming traffic and
traffic ahead and behind you
-Be Aware of the speed limit on the
roadway and the speed of the vehicles in
the lane you intend to enter
-Make sure you have the space to pull out
of your parked position in one smooth
motion
1. Use both sideview and rearview mirrors.
2. Signal your intention to move into
traffic.
3. Look over your left shoulder to check
traffic and your blindspot.
4. Steer away from the curb and directly
into the nearest lane of traffic.
Changing Lanes
-After you have checked out your plan to
change lanes and are ready to make
the move, follow these steps
1. Check mirrors again.
2. Signal your attempt to move right or
left.
3. Check over your shoulder on the side
next to the lane you want enter for the
for vehicles in your blind spot.
4. Adjust your speed as necessary.
5. Move only when you have the
time and space to do so.
6. Steer smoothly into the next lane.
Push-pull-feed steering is best.
After you have steered into the
next lane, turn off your signal.
Steer In Reverse
1. With your foot on the break, shift into
reverse. If backing straight, place your
left hand on the top of the steering
wheel and your right arm across the top
of the seat. (Look over right or left
shoulder depending the vehicles
intended direction.)
2. Ease off of break slowly any apply only
slight pressure, if any, to the
accelerator.
3. Find the point you wish to go to so that
you can identify and correct any
steering errors.
4. Concentrate your visual search out the
rear window, with quick, repeated
glances to the front. Keep alert to make
sure that the vehicle is moving in the
right direction and the front end is not
about to strike anything.
5. Continue looking out the back window
until the car is completely stopped.
