Aid in identifying and securing National Government funding Aid in informing National, Regional and Local Government Policy Background Previous Plans Other plans, CASP, Waterford, Galway. Requirement of DOE and DOT Consensus among partner Authorities required Working Group Facilitator Appointed to assist with Brief 2 day work shop in Limerick (Expert speakers, Discussions) Pre- Qualification of approved Consortia by 24th April – 5 approved Brief completed and preferred Tender selected (Summer ’08) Proposed Study Area The ‘Study Area’ has been taken to include the entirety of Limerick City, Limerick County, Clare and North Tipperary Councils’ administrative areas National Spatial Strategy Limerick/Shannon Gateway Hub Town - Ennis Strategic Vision The Study is to put in place a framework and continuous process for the next thirty years for the development of the Mid-West Region. The development of a strategic vision shall be formulated to ensure the balanced growth of the Study Area, thereby allowing the region to reach its fullest potential in terms of achieving maximum social, economic, physical and cultural advantage for its citizens. Issues to be addressed by Study Transport and Accessibility (Transport Model) Housing / Settlement Strategy Planning for Social Inclusion Planning for Economic Growth Services Infrastructure Requirements Environment Tourism Strategic Policy Context (Spatial Development, Sustainable Development, Transportation and Infrastructure, Atlantic Gateway Corridor, Quality of Life, Planning Guidelines) Study Requirements The Study will be required to: Establish the criteria and performance indicators by which alternative development strategies and transport schemes are to be assessed (such criteria should be referenced to the results of the consultations and where possible to spatially referenced data). Identify a preferred long-term transport and land use development strategy for the Mid-West Region. Identify policies, schemes and measures required to implement the strategy, including infrastructural and funding requirements. Consider and make recommendations on administrative and institutional arrangements to support the implementation of the strategy. Demonstrate how strategies and schemes contribute towards policy objectives with respect to quality of life, the spatial aspects of social issues, the environment and the local economy. Consider and make recommendations on the promotion of the strategy. WHERE FROM HERE?
