The idea of creating wholesale markets
The creation of farm and food wholesale markets
in Poland was initiated in July 1996
by ˝The programme for organising wholesale
markets and commodity exchanges up to 2000˝
approved by the Minister of Agriculture and Food
Management – 17 July 1996.

The programme pursuant to its assumptions
foresaw the development of a modern infrastructure
for the farm and food market in the form of
wholesale markets and commodity exchanges, with
the main organisers and participants being
• agricultural producers, groups of producers and their associations.
• aholesalers, with substantial support from Local Governments.
• a significant capital stake in companies on the part of banking and
insurance institutions was assumed.

The establishment and registration
of the Lublin Wholesale Market JSC
The Lublin Wholesale Market, Joint Stock
Company in Elizówka (at the moment of the
company’s establishment: Lubelska Giełda RolnoOgrodnicza Spółka Akcyjna – the Lublin Agricultural
and Horticultural Market, Joint Stock Company) was
created within the Governmental “Programme of
building the network of wholesale markets and
agricultural exchanges” – as a supraregional
wholesale market.
The establishment and registration of
the Lublin Wholesale Market JSC
The company was established on 18 July 1995.
The founders of the Company were 19 entities. The
Company’s share capital amounted to PLN 1,131,500
and was divided into 11,315 shares with a nominal
value of PLN 100 each. As an economic entity, the
Company was registered on 25 September 1995 in
the 11th Economic Department of the Local Court in
Lublin and started its activity on 1 October 1995.
Producers, their associations and the Ministry of
Agriculture were the main initiators of the
Company’s establishment.
Contribution in kind
The Senate of the Agricultural University,
in Lublin by virtue of the Resolutions of 24 March
1995 and 15 December 1995, granted its consent to
the provision of land, of which the Agricultural
University would be a perpetual user, with a total
area of 56.37 ha, located in the village of Kolonia
Elizówka as a contribution in kind to the joint stockcompany the Lublin Agricultural and Horticultural
Market based in Lublin, receiving shares in form of
registered shares.
Contribution in kind
By way of the notarial deed of 9 January
1998, the Agricultural University in Lublin
subscribed to additional shares, providing
contribution in kind in the form of perpetual
usufruct of subsequent lots with the total area
of 53 ares.
This area became a place for planning
a modern investment, which the Lublin
Wholesale Market Joint Stock Company has
become.

amounted to circa
PLN 80 million,
i.e. circa $ 20 million.

- overcoming barriers
The opening of the New Market in Elizówka took place on 1 September 2000
• Pursuant to the agreement with the Municipal Company of Road Works
(Komunalne Przedsiębiorstwo Robót Drogowych, KPRD), a company
managing “the exchange” at ul. Pancerniaków in Lublin, where previously
the wholesale trade had taken place, on 31 August 2000 “the exchange”
was closed and traders moved to the Market in Elizówka.
• The Lublin Wholesale Market Joint Stock Company paid a contractual
compensation to the Municipal Company of Road Works for ceasing the
activity connected with running the wholesale market in the amount of
PLN 2.5 million

service, apart from trading activiies, the Wholesale Market Elizówka

agriculture support activities.

near Lublin.

Elizówka Market’s investments
• Increasing demand for trading spaces allowing trade in flowers –
a new challenge for ELIZÓWKA MARKET!
• In January 2008 it was decided to extend the flower hall.
• Owing to this, the hall increased its area by 2 600 m²
• The cost of the whole investment amounted to PLN 6.2 million and
was financed in full by the own funds of the Company!
• The launch of the new facility took place on 1 January 2010, and
once the investment was completed, the extended hall B1 filled up
with new tenants – which confirms the validity of the decision.

Market’s further investments
• In September 2009 another decision was made on further investments.
• In January, 2012 was opened new investment, a new hall for MEGAHURT,
with an area of 3500m².
• The new hall has been rented to wholesalers who offer food, fruits and
vegetables.
• This investment also was financed in full by the own funds of the
Company.
