What other notifications should I expect from my

(if applicable)
What is Title I?


Title I is a federally funded program that offers
additional federal dollars to support schools in
areas with high free and reduced lunch
percentages. This is determined by the school
lunch forms (Program Eligibility Forms) that
you fill out and turn in to the school. This is one
of the reasons the school asks you to fill out
the lunch forms.
This year’s lunch forms provide funds for next
year.
How does a school qualify for Title I?
 Presently APS schools qualify at 50% Free and
Reduced Lunch.
 APS Charter schools also qualify for Title I funds
at 50% Free and Reduced Lunch.
FAQ
Q - What if everyone at our school eats for free?
A – If a school has a high percentage, the school has an option to
choose a special lunch program called “Provision II.” The school
qualifies for “Provision II” status based on the actual percentage from
lunch forms submitted the year the school receives “Provision II”
status.
What is the Title I PROGRAM Plan?
 The school’s Title I Program Plan determines how
students will be served. The Plan is aligned to the
school’s Educational Plan for School Success
(Web EPSS) which includes the 11 required Title I
components as well as the staff that will be paid
during the school year from Title I funds. This plan
is developed each spring for the next school year,
and requires input from parents and staff.
How does my child qualify for Title I services?
 Schoolwide programs provide supplemental funds
to upgrade instruction in a Title I school, without
identifying “eligible” or “ineligible” students. It is
critical to address the needs of all children in the
school, but particularly the needs of low-achieving
students and those at risk of not meeting the State
student academic achievement standards.
What kind of services can Title I supply?
 A reading or math specialist to help students at
greatest risk of failing (could be a pull out program
or the teacher could work in many classrooms
with at risk students)
 Extra teachers to lower pupil teacher ratio
 Educational assistants to provide additional
support to students in the classroom including
language help for non-English speaking students
 Parent Liaisons
 Computer software
 Supplemental books and materials that are not
provided by state or district funds.

Parent Involvement


Each Title I school receives funds for family
engagement. These funds come from a 1% setaside from the APS Title I District budget. 95% of
these funds are distributed to schools for their
parent involvement programs.
Parents must be involved in how these funds are
used to support the academic achievement of the
students attending the school.
What can Parent Involvement funds be used for?
Workshops/Classes for parents/guardians
Communication with parents
Supplies and equipment for a parent center
Childcare for meetings
Materials and books for curriculum nights
(Reading, Math, Science)
 Snacks for parent meetings
 Meals for parent meetings/workshops that occur
