• Football is a sport played between
two teams of eleven players with a
ball.
Beginnings
The very first game was played in
England in the mid-nineteenth
century, and first rules of how to
play were written down. They were
intended to unify the rules of the
game, because many British students
and pupils of private schools played
this game in a very chaotic way.
Game rules
Matches are played on the playing field set in a rectangular
shape.
The two shorter lines are called lines a goal and two longer –
sidelines.
On opposite sides of the playing field in the middle of the goal
lines, are set goals.
The team has 11 players, including goalkeeper.
The team may also designate up to 7 substitutes.
Names of all players must be included in the report given to the
match referee.
During the meeting, the team can make substitutions. Once
substituted, the player cannot play again in the same match.
During the game you can hit the ball with your
head, kick with your leg, and even hit it with your chest etc.
However, if you deliberately touch it with your hands, it will
cause a penalty.
Only goalkeeper can touch the ball with his hands.
Dress
Players of one team (except the
goalkeeper) must have the same
outfit during the match.
Outfit consists of a t-shirt, shorts,
leggings and football shoes. T-shirt
must have sleeves and be in the
shorts during the match. It must
have a different colour than the
shorts. T- shirt must have a number.
Penalties
For various offences on the playing field a
player can get red or a yellow card. In football
there are a lot of offences: kicking the opponent,
hitting other players, pushing, inappropriate body
attack, holding the opponent, spitting or touching
the ball with hands.
If a player commits this type of action the
judge may use a yellow card. Yellow card is a
symbol of warning, and acts as reminder that if
the offence will happen again, then the player will
get a red car which will eliminate him from
further play in the match.
Offside
A player who passes the ball to his team
member, who is in the offside position can be
punished only when, in the opinion of the judge, he
deliberately:
• interferes in the game,
• interfers with an opponent,
• benefits from being in that position.
Time rules
Game lasts 90 minutes (two halves,
each of 45 minutes). The judge can
extend each half of the match. After
additional time a winner is a team that
has scored more goals.
In the league system, the winner
team gets 3 point, the losing team gets
none. Drawn means that both teams get
1 point each.
In the league system, both teams
play 2 matches with eath other.
