History
• Team handball originated in Europe in the 1920s
• The Danish drew up the rules of handball in

The International Handball Federation consist of
136 members and 12 million registered players.
Men handball competed in the Munich Olympics
in 1972.
Womens handball competed in the Montreal
Olympics in 1976.
Rules
• 7 players on each side
• Two referees
• A throw-off is taken by the team that wins
the coin toss and chooses to start the
game with the ball

• A player is allowed to run with the ball for 3
