TEAM HANDBALL
• History:
• Created in Germany in 1890’s for the
training of gymnasts.
• Two versions: 11 man outdoor game and a
7 man indoor game. The indoor game has
been an Olympic sport since 1972.
TEAM HANDBALL
• Players: Two teams of seven players
• Each team has a goalie who must stay in
the goalie area (arc).
• Each team has two guards and must stay
on the defensive half.
• Each team has two forwards, they must
go to the fore court and play offense.
• Each team has two centers, their job is to
play offense and defense

• Scoring:
• Each goal is worth one (1) point.
• You cannot score if you are inside the goalie
box.
• You may score by throwing the ball past the
goalie and into the goal. It is okay to use your
head, forearm, or elbow. Your shot must
originate from behind the shooting arc.
• You may not kick or knee the ball past the
goalie.

• Starting the game: Play starts with a coin
toss. The game starts with a throw off.
• The person putting the ball into play can
pass the ball in any direction but must do
so within three seconds.
• All defensive players must be at least
three feet from the person putting the ball
in play.

Playing the ball:
The ball can be moved in a variety of ways:
The most efficient way is passing it to a teammate.
Players may take a maximum of three steps without
traveling.
Players may dribble the ball only three times in
succession.
Players may not kick the ball.
Players may not hold, push, run into, jump into or
endanger an opponent.
Players may not pull, hit, or use their fist to force the ball
out of an opponents hands.
