Made a Travel Wise booklet with support from a Police Community Support
from Thames Valley Police. This is a top tips guide to help people stay safe.
Training group ‘Listen to us’ delivers disability awareness training to 180 people
since 2011 for a support agency, sports coaches and teachers. They are
going to set up a training programme for customer service staff. They’d like
to hear from other groups who have done this.
They have been given free training for self advocates. Some members have
passed Food Hygiene Level 1 and First Aid Awareness training. They will be
using this training when they volunteer at their weekly coffee shop.
In January, Ian from Inclusion North came down from Leeds to deliver a
Healthy Surfers course to over 30 people. The workshop received some really
positive feedback and was a good example of groups from across England
working well together.
They are finding Twitter a really useful way to find out what other self
advocacy groups are doing and would like to see the National Forum on
there.
There has been a problem where people who attend Day Services but would
like to get more involved in CLASP but cannot be supported because their
personal budget is going to the day service.
• They have been working on the Big Voice Plan which will
give people some ideas and aims for what needs to
change for people with learning disabilities across
Reading.
• Working with Reading Mencap on their Hear my voice
campaign making sure everyone knows about the up
and coming election for next year.
• This year has been the launch of the Health Passport in
Reading and they are working alongside health
professionals, community team members and
Healthwatch to ensure that people are made aware of
them and how to use them.
• In Buckinghamshire they are re launching the Health
Passport as well as being on the interview panel at Stoke
Mandeville hospital for a new Liaison Nurse.
