The San Lorenzo is a beautiful basilica. The San lorenzo is the
oldest church in Florence. The basilica was consacrated in 393.
Dante's house, is located between the square and the street of Santa
Margherita, opposite the Torre della Castagna and the remains of the
church of St. Martin. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city.
Here in the heart of medieval Florence, where, on the basis of some
documentaries, stood the houses of Alighieri.
Santa Croce is one of the most famous churches in Florence, with
a density of amazing artwork even for a city like Florence.
Attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio (1295) and completed in the
fourteenth century.
The Pitti Palace, which was
formerly the residence of
the grand-dukes of Tuscany
and later of the King of
Italy, now houses several
important collections of
paintings and sculpture,
works of art,
porcelain and a costume
gallery, besides
providing a
magnificently decorated
historical setting which
extends to the Boboli
Gardens, one of the
earliest Italian gardens
famous also for its
fountains and grottoes.
The Duomo is also called "Cathedral" because there is the chair of
the Bishop, that is, the place where the Bishop celebrates and
preaches the Word of the Lord.
The Old Bridge was
until 1218 the only
bridge crossing the
Arno in Florence.
The bridge, as you
see it today was
built in 1345 after a
severe
flood
destroyed
the
previous
year.
During the Second
World War, German
troops destroyed all
the
bridges
of
Florence,
except
this one.
On November 4, 1966, the Old Bridge miraculously endured the huge
wave of water from the Arno in flood, which broke its banks causing
the flood of Florence.
For more than seven centuries the
Palace of the Signoria, better
known as the Old Palace, is the
symbol of the civil power of the
city of Florence. Its current
appearance is due largely to great
works of renovation and interior
decoration that were made in the
middle decades of the sixteenth
century, in order to adapt to the
new function of the ducal palace
to which Cosimo I de 'Medici had
intended. After the transfer of the
Medici court in the Pitti Palace
continued to host the Wardrobe
and various government offices,
until in 1871 it became the seat of
the Municipality of Florence.
Since 1868, following the abolition laws of church property and in
accordance with the agreement signed in September 3 between the City
and the rectors of churches, the Community of the Dominicans took on
the obligation to provide for the maintenance of worship and its ordinary
officiatura and extraordinary, thus becoming responsible for the
pastoral and liturgical service of the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella.
It was fun and exciting. Sleep
away from home is fun, even
if, at times, scary. Visit a city
other than your own makes
you know your country, not
only in the cultural and
historical heritage also on a
personal level.
