New applications are growing in popularity, replacing and supplementing the traditional navigation solutions. 27-Apr-20 European GNSS Agency 3

Key market trends

     Lower costs of data connectivity and consumer electronics drive the development of new applications The number of embedded devices and On-Board Units (OBUs) is growing, replacing traditional nomadic devices New Intelligent Transport System (ITS) services are expected to be deployed in the coming years, taking the use of GNSS far beyond in vehicle navigation V2V and V2X communications, is fostering the integration of GNSS with various technologies and sensors New policies and regulations in Europe for automatic emergency assistance (eCall) or Digital Tachographs are also expected to accelerate the business case for these new concepts

These developments drive new requirements for vehicle positioning

Road Tolling

Examples of market trends

eCall system

  Free flow tolling schemes are governing all roads GNSS is the greener solution and more flexible in the long term 27-Apr-20   Proposed eCall regulation, requiring EGNSS 200 mln vehicles targeted European GNSS Agency 5

EGNSS value proposition for Road

• • EGNOS

improves accuracy

and provides information on the reliability of GPS signal - it is now included in many automotive GNSS chipsets.

EGNOS has started to be valued in applications such as road charging and dangerous goods transport monitoring.

• • • Galileo will bring immediate benefits in Road, as part of a multi-constellation solution.

It will add value in all applications by providing

increased

availability, especially in urban environments where the number of satellites in view can be limited. This will result in better accuracy and reliability of positioning.

Additional benefits are expected when the dual- frequency capacity of Galileo will be fully exploited by consumer devices.

Areas of interest for GNSS innovation in Road

     ADAS/Connected and Autonomous vehicles: robust and accurate lane level positioning; focus on real implementation and/or new fields of application for EGNSS eCall: support to Galileo deployment on in-vehicle systems or new generation of devices Digital Tachograph/Dangerous goods tracking: robust positioning potentially using authentication services of Galileo; focus on real implementation Pay As You Drive: new applications and commercial ideas in which EGNSS can give additional value New distance based road pricing solutions: more accurate and trustable positioning products to enhance performance; focus on real implementation and/or new fields of application for EGNSS 27-Apr-20 European GNSS Agency 7

Discussion

    Shall I present my Road project proposal in Space or in Transport Call?

What is the expected duration of the Road projects?

Feasibility of the proposal will be assessed based on regulatory aspects and business models Strong Consortium is a definitive asset for project acceptance 27-Apr-20 European GNSS Agency 9
