EGNSS Adoption in Maritime Opportunities Market Segmentation EGNSS Added Value for Maritime Areas of Interest for Innovation Discussion

Agenda

Current status of the EGNSS adoption in Maritime

EGNOS trials conducted by EC confirmed IMO performance requirements for coastal navigation, port approaches and inland waterways.

Galileo uptake will likely increase rapidly, once it is recognized by IMO as part of the WWRNS

Multi-constellation GNSS receiver is key for the IMO E-Navigation concept,

providing better availability and accuracy 3

E-GNSS concrete opportunities for industry – Maritime

EGNOS and Galileo, can contribute to a safer and more efficient navigation Examples of applications:

 General navigation  Automatic collision avoidance  Track control  Traffic management   Port operations Fisheries monitoring

Galileo will contribute to international SAR operations

   Europe’s contribution to the MEOSAR system of COSPAS-SARSAT Forward link: Time reduction in the detection and localization of SAR alert Return link: Sends detection acknowledgement message from the SAR operator to the distress emitting beacon http://egnos-portal.gsa.europa.eu/maritime

Areas of interest for GNSS innovation in Maritime

Unregulated Market

• • Unregulated market is an attractive option for new products and applications Applications for recreational boats and marinas represents a good opportunity for innovation  c.a. 6 Millions vessels in Europe  c.a. 4000 marinas in Europe

Regulated Market

• Maritime is a strongly regulated market segment Influence of regulation in business plan will be key for proposal selection especially in:  Passenger and freight transport  Fisheries  Environmental protection  Ports operations  SAR operations 27-Apr-20 European GNSS Agency 7

Discussion

H2020-Galileo-2014: APPLICATIONS IN SATELLITE NAVIGATION

• Call is focused on applications ( New developments on Multifrequency/Multiconstellation Rx out of scope) • Preliminary business plan has to be included in the proposal • GNSS added value has to be justified in the proposal taking into occount other technologies • Development of products as well as end to end solutions are of high interest 8

Thank you! We are looking forward to your ideas
