Assessment
*Selected schools only
Districts have selected one week within the administration window(s) to
administer the test(s). For security purposes, testing at a school should be
completed in this one-week window if possible; however, up to two
consecutive weeks will be allowed to accommodate computer-based testing
needs. Districts may schedule one or more sessions per day, depending on
school-level circumstances.
Any deviation from this schedule requires written approval from the
FDOE prior to implementation.

•
What’s New for Spring 2011
• All EOC assessments are computer-based tests.



Paper-based accommodations (regular print, large print, braille, and oneitem-per-page) are provided for Algebra 1 only.
Accommodated CBT forms (e.g., large print, color contrast, zoom, screen
reader) will not be provided for this administration.
Administration accommodations (e.g., flexible setting, flexible scheduling)
may be provided to eligible students participating in EOC assessments as
specified on their IEPs, Section 504 plans, or ELL plans. All accommodations
actually used must be recorded in PearsonAccess after testing.
• The Algebra 1 EOC Assessment is administered in one 160-minute session
with a scheduled break after 80 minutes. Additional time may be
provided, if needed. Students may be permitted to leave after the
scheduled 10-minute break. Testing must be completed within the same
school day.
• A CBT Test Administrator user role has been created in PearsonAccess to
allow test administrators to resume computer-based tests.
Districts/schools determine whether these accounts are created for test
–Escambia School District, Florida
administrators.
What’s New for Spring 2011
• Mathematics Work Folder is now called Florida Computer-Based
Testing Work Folder.
• Students are required to participate in a practice test at the school
using the script provided in the CBT test administration manual.

Practice test is delivered using an ePAT (electronic practice assessment
test).

ePAT is available for student to practice on their own.
• After participating in a practice test for Algebra 1 or Biology 1,
students can request an FCAT hand-held calculator to use on the day
of testing.
• Students can request a hand-held scientific calculator if the
school/district elects to provide these to students. (The FDOE does
not provide hand-held scientific calculators.)
–Escambia School District, Florida
What’s New for Spring 2011
• Algebra 1/Geometry EOC Reference Sheet and the Periodic Table of
the Elements are provided in the CBT platform, TestNav 6.9, for the
applicable assessments.



Schools may provide hardcopy reference sheets or periodic tables to
students.
Hardcopy reference sheets must be single-page, double-sided
photocopies of the reference sheet that is in Appendix D of the EOC
manual.
Hardcopy periodic tables must be one-page, single-sided photocopies of
the periodic table that is in Appendix D of the EOC manual.
• One proctor is required for every 25 students for computer-based
testing.
–Escambia School District, Florida
Reminders for Spring 2011
• Students may not have any electronic or recording devices at their desks, in
their pockets, or anywhere they can reach them during testing, even if the
devices are turned off or the students do not use them.

If a student is found to be in possession of ANY electronic device(s) during testing,
his or her test must be invalidated in order to successfully enforce this policy.
• Inappropriate actions by school or district personnel before, during, or after test
administration may result in consequences including test invalidations and/or
loss of teaching certification.




Carefully read the Test Security Policies and Procedures to ensure that you are
following the correct procedures.
District assessment coordinators must require school administrators, school
assessment coordinators, test administrators, and proctors to sign a Florida EOC Test
Administration and Security Agreement.
Security of all test materials, including Student Authorization Tickets, must be
maintained before, during, and after test administration.
Schools are required to maintain an accurate Security Log for each testing room.

•
FDOE encourages schools and districts to consider recycling manuals and other nonsecure ancillary materials after scores have been reported.
Test administrators must NOT administer the EOC assessments to their family
members.
If a student starts a test and leaves school without finishing (for an appointment,
illness, etc.), he/she will NOT be allowed to complete the test.
Administration manuals must be provided to itinerant teachers in time for them to
prepare.
Practice tests (ePATs) can be used at any time, up to the day before the test.

Train Test Administrators and Proctors
• Monitoring test sessions and resuming students in PearsonAccess
 School coordinators will resume students as needed and may require test
administrators to contact them during testing to request this authorization.
 Test administrators may resume students if PearsonAccess accounts have
been created by the district.
• Securing a student’s computer if a student leaves the room and
will resume testing
Recommended
 Long breaks: student must exit the TestNav system by clicking the X or the
red circle in the top corner and then clicking Yes, exit the test
 Student will not be able to continue testing until he/she is authorized to resume
testing in PearsonAccess.
 Short breaks: visual block (e.g., a file folder) must be applied to obscure the
computer screen or turn off the monitor

Create Test Sessions (After 4/11/11)
• Three ways of organizing test sessions
1. By Test Group – only includes students in a particular group (e.g.,
class, testing room) who will be testing together
Advantage: PearsonAccess can be used to manage the testing
groups and session rosters will include only one group of students
testing together
Disadvantage: will require setup and management of more sessions
2. By Test Day – includes all students in a school to be tested in a
subject on a particular day
Advantage: greater security because a session can be started and
stopped on the same day
Disadvantage: requires coordination of testing groups at the school
–Escambia School District, Florida

PearsonAccess – Before Testing
Create Test Sessions
(continued)
3. By Test Administration – includes all students scheduled to be
tested in a subject during the entire test administration
Advantage: limits setup and management to one session and
additional make-up sessions do not need to be created
Disadvantage: test sessions are open and active during the entire
testing window, which may present a security concern; greater
coordination of testing groups at schools; and may be cumbersome
to locate and manage specific students

Proctor Caching
• Computers used for Proctor Caching do not need to be server-class
machines but should meet the system requirements

Proctor Caching can run on either a Windows or Mac operating
system, and each can support both Windows and Mac-based testing
workstations.
• Each testing computer must be configured to refer to a Proctor
Caching computer in order to obtain test content.

If more than one computer is being used for Proctor Caching, be sure
to specify the IP address of the correct Proctor Caching computer
during the TestNav installation process.

For example: if there are 80 computers that may be used for testing
and two Proctor Caching computers, 40 of the testing computers may
be configured to link to Proctor Caching computer A, and the
remaining 40 may link to Proctor Caching computer B.
–Escambia School District, Florida

Proctor Caching
• Proctor Caching Security
 Proctor Caching software stores a copy of the test content on the local
hard drive of the machine on which it runs.
 Test content transmitted and stored by the Proctor Caching computer is
in encrypted format.
 At no time does the Proctor Caching computer un-encrypt the test items.
 “Purge cache” function deletes all encrypted test content from the hard
drive of the Proctor Caching computer.
 FDOE and Pearson require that test content be purged at the end of each
administration window (after June 3, 2011).
• Proctor Caching Computer Placement


Proctor caching can be implemented at either the lab- or the schoollevel.
Computer should be located as close as possible on the network to the
student workstations.
