News from The Rattler’s Nest

Principal’s Message…..
Parents,
We have had a great 2013-2014
school year. Now it is time to say “See
you later” for the summer. All of us at
Augusta Ranch hope that you have a
wonderful and safe summer!
Our job of educating students is truly
enjoyable because of you. Thank you for
all you do for Augusta Ranch, our staff,
and our students.
I also want to thank everyone who
supported the Augusta Ranch Staff when
we lost a wonderful colleague and friend
in Jennifer McLean. We appreciated so
much the luncheon, flowers, well wishes
and kind words.
Your expressions of care were truly
appreciated!
Thank you,
Love & Logic
Few people set out with a written plan for getting themselves mired in dysfunctional relationships with their
friends, relatives, coworkers, or kids. Why…then…do so many of us find ourselves struggling with
manipulative people who mistreat us? Why do so many parents grieve because the children they love aren’t
motivated to love and respect them back?
Part of the answer involves the fact that many of us failed to learn what healthy, loving, and respectful
relationships look like. While most of our parents did the very best they could, many of them were
themselves struggling with learning these lessons.
Young people of my generation turned on our transistor radios and heard, “All you need is love.”
We hoped that the Beatles were right.
It wasn’t long before we found out that love…at least as we understood it…was definitely not enough. We
wondered, “What’s love got to do with it? Maybe Tina Turner was right.”
Now younger people have Reality TV.
What’s the net effect? More and more people of all ages are looking for love in all the wrong places...and in
all the wrong ways.
Healthy love and healthy relationships have two components we rarely find combined in television, movies,
or popular music:
1. Unconditional caring
2. Boundaries/Limits
Please don’t misunderstand! I struggle, too. Few of us are truly immune from the cultural confusion.
Fortunately, Love and Logic provides a practical template for healthy love and healthy relationships. The
message of empathy communicates unconditional caring while at the same time communicating the fact that
we are not Captain Codependent to the rescue.
Taking good care of ourselves by setting limits communicates that we respect ourselves enough to expect
respectful treatment from others.
In a nutshell, Love and Logic shows us how to remain compassionate and powerful at the very same time.
Learn more about setting healthy loving limits in our book, Love and Logic Magic for Lasting Relationships,
by Jim Fay and Dr. David B. Hawkins. It is guaranteed to make a profound difference in the way you
communicate with others in your life!
Thanks for reading! Our goal is to help as many families as possible. If this is a benefit, forward it to a
friend.
Dr. Charles Fay
IMPORTANT NOTICE CONCERNING
3RD GRADE STUDENTS:
ARS§15-701 Move on When Reading
Beginning in the school year 2013-2014, Arizona
will implement an innovative new policy that will
create multiple opportunities for 3rd grade
students to master reading at the grade level.
Students who score Falls Far Below on the AIMS
reading test may be retained in the 3rd grade to
meet the rigorous reading standards set forth in
the Arizona English Language Arts Standards.
The law does provide for exemptions under
certain circumstances. Those include students
who have disabilities and did not take the AIMS
test; those who are English Language Learners
or Limited English Proficient and have received
less than two years of English instruction; and
cases in which a district or charter governing
board approves a parent’s request. The law will
provide for extended time, intervention and
remedial strategies for students who are not
promoted. Those include providing summer
school reading instruction; requiring the student
to be assigned to a different teacher for reading
instruction; online reading instruction; and
intensive reading instruction during the
following academic year either before, during or
after the regular school day.

Re: Student Meal Accounts
When a student runs out of money in their meal account between Wednesday, May
7, 2014 and the end of this school year, he/she may pay cash at the register daily,
or continue to deposit money in their meal account. If a student has any amount
of money less than the price of the meal ($2.25 or $0.40 for reduced) the student
will receive a snack lunch at no cost. The snack lunch consists of a cheese
sandwich, beverage, and a fresh fruit. No charges (negative balances) will be
allowed after Friday May 9, 2014.
Ideally, money remaining in a students meal account should be used up by the end
of the school year. However, any remaining funds will roll over to the next school
year. If you wish to receive a refund, please fill out the Refund Request Form on
the Gilbert Public Schools website at www.gilbertschools.net. No funds will be
paid directly from the cafeteria manager; a check will be mailed from the Food
Services Office.
To check an account balance or make payments online, visit
www.mylunchmoney.com or call the Cafeteria Manager.
If your student has a negative account balance please send the funds as soon as
possible. Gilbert Public Schools participates in the Free and Reduced National
Lunch Program. For more information or to apply online for next school, visit the
Gilbert Public Schools Website and simply choose the Departments Tab, then
click on Food Services. Choose the link for Free & Reduced Meal Applications.
Applications will be accepted for the 2014-2015 school year starting Monday, July
14, 2014.
We are always here to help, please call if you have any questions.

Important Cafeteria News
Ideally, money in a students lunch account will be used by the
end of the school year, however if money is left in a students
lunch account, it will roll over to the next school year. If there is
money left in a 6th graders account, it will be transferred to the
junior high unless they are leaving the district. If you need a
refund please let me know.
If a student runs out of money in their account before the end
of the school year, he/she may bring cash daily, or deposit
money into their account, if there is not enough money in your
students account to cover the cost of a lunch that day and he
she doesn’t bring money, he/she will be given a snack lunch,
consisting of a cheese sandwich, fruit, juice and milk.
Remember lunch is $2.25 a day or reduced is $.40 a day.
NO OWING LUNCH MONEY AFTER APRIL 21st.
To find out the balance in your students lunch account, please

If you have had a change in your
contact information such as your home
address, telephone numbers, or email
address; please contact Ms. Kipp or
Mrs. Esterly in the front office. That’s
also a perfect time to double check the
information on your yellow emergency
card in the health office as well.
If you, a friend, or relative are picking up a
student, please be sure to bring your ID
into the building. Also, allow time for us to
locate your student in case they aren’t in
the classroom. Ms. Kreitzer’s policy is that
we are not to call students to the office until
someone is here to sign them out. Thank
you for your patience and understanding.
If you need to reach your student about a
change in afternoon transportation
arrangements, please call our office after
3:15pm on regular schools days. We will put
your call directly into the classroom. You
may also send a note to his/her teacher,
email the teacher, or leave them a voice mail
with the information.
