Augusta Ranch Elementary

Home of the Rattlers

February 2015 Mr. Michael Hansen, Principal * Mrs. Amy Mulliken, Dean of Students

Dear Augusta Ranch Families, Can you believe there is less than two weeks until Spring Break? Where has this year gone? Spring Break this year runs from March 9-13 and there is no school that week. Prior to Spring Break, we have our amazing Augusta Ranch Carnival which will take place this Saturday, February 28th from 11am-2pm. Please join us for a great time!

I wanted to let you know about some amazing online resources when it comes to your student’s homework. Speaking from experience, I know as your student gets older and their homework gets more involved, it becomes harder and harder to help them with it. There are some great homework help sites online that give your student a resource to go to. Two sites I really like are www.khanacademy.org

and www.doyourhomeworkarizona.org

. These sites provide videos to teach the academic areas that your student may be struggling in. Students can search for topics and then watch videos to help them better understand those concepts. As your students gets older, these sites will be an amazing resource to help them excel in school.

Finally, I hope you received Superintendent Dr. Kishimoto’s recent emails about the upcoming budget concerns in our district as well as at the state level. I encourage you to get involved and write to your state legislators and tell them how important public schools are to you and the community. The current proposed budget by the governor reduces funding to Arizona public education by $113 million. This is concerning because in the 2012/2013 school year Arizona was already in last place when considering per pupil funding in the country. It is time that we let the Arizona legislature know that we demand more for our children and their future education.

Augusta Ranch is an amazing school because of our students, staff and community. I am very proud of everyone’s hard work and it is great to work in such a supportive community. Thank you to our Augusta Ranch PTSO for all of their hard work and dedication to our school. They have worked so hard putting on recent events such as Bingo Night, the Daddy/Daughter Dance and now the upcoming carnival. If you would like to get involved please contact our PTSO and they will welcome you with open arms. Please do not hesitate to contact me if there is something that you need help or support with. I am looking forward to a great rest of the year.

Thanks for all you do.

Mike Hansen
