Transcript GeoProMT - University at Buffalo

GeoProMT
• Purpose of today’s meeting
– Present some research ideas
• Identify people willing to make a commitment to
the project
– Development could be part of your MS thesis or
project
Christoph’s Idea
• Christoph is involved with the Open Geospatial
Consortium
– An organization that develops and maintains data
models, and communications standards for geospatial
information and services
• An idea is to integrate OGC standards into
Geopromt.
– Enhance the standing of geopromt as a management tool
by adhering to standards
– Focus on a current weak point of geopromt: metadata
Research Questions
• What metadata provided by OGC services is
relevant for the GeoProMT?
• How can relevant metadata and OGC services be
stored in GeoProMT?
• How can the relevant metadata and OGC services
be presented to the user in GeoProMT and be
utilized to support the user in searching for data
objects or transformation resources?
How to proceed?
• review the OGC standards and see which ones
are provide metadata specifications relevant to
geopromt
• How can this specification be used to describe
geopromt objects?
Requirements and Outcome
• XML and Web Services
• PHP, HTML/CSS/Javascript and MySQL
• Basic knowledge of OGC standards is an
advantage, but not necessarily required
• Outcome is an improved support for metadata in
geopromt resulting in a more robust project
management tool
• Possibility for a paper.
Ryan’s Idea
• Integration of ArcGIS and GeoProMT
• Geopromt does not currently depend on any GIS
or other software to manage a project
– By design
• Many people use ArcGIS though.
• It would be an enhancement to the usability of
geopromt to have a toolbar in ArcGIS that allows
direct interaction with GeoProMT
Arc-GeoProMT
• Toolbar allows upload and download of files, fills
in object attributes automatically.
• Allows for the creation and manipulation of
transformers directly within ArcGIS
– Interface to manage transformers in a more ArcGIS
oriented way
– Transformer holds information on the name of the
tool, the input dataset names and parameters used
• Automatically (or manually within Arc) link
objects with transformers.
Arc-GeoProMT
• Populate metadata automatically
– Extract from files directly
• Could be part of a MS thesis or project
• Skills:
– ArcGIS
– Programming ability in a language supported by
ArcGIS
• C++, .NET, Python
Other development
•
•
•
•
•
Give code some polish.
Improve GeoProMT usability
Fix bugs
Integration with vHub
May not be enough for a project/thesis
– Gain experience with coding
