NORTH RIDING
WOMEN’S COUNTY
LEAGUE
The Football Association Women's Super League, is the highest league of women’s football in
England. The league consists of two divisions, the WSL1 and the WSL2. It is run by the Football
Association and began in April 2011. An initial eight teams competed in the league, which
replaced the FA Women’s Premier League as the highest level of women's football in England.
The FA WSL2, was introduced in 2014 and added a further 10 teams to the league. WSL seasons
run from April until October. The WSL champions and runners-up qualify for the UEFA Women’s
Champions League the following season. The current champions are Liverpool, who won the title
in the 2013 season. The bottom team of the WSL1 at the end of each season will be replaced by
the WSL2 champion in the next season. There is currently no promotion/relegation between the
WSL and The FA Women's Premier League, which continues to play a winter season. However
the FA has approved the expansion of The FA WSL and will consider eligible clubs from the
newly-formed FA Women’s Premier League (WPL) for entry from 2016.
The official name The FA WSL and logo of the league were announced on 19 November 2010.

MFC Foundation targets Women & Girls from 14 – 25 but encourages all female
participation no matter what age. With 14 Satellite clubs in place at the start of the
academic year we cover a wide area of Tees Valley in both secondary schools and 6th
form colleges. We encourage the training and understanding of community club
operations through training as Junior Club Managers, with the option to develop
personal skills to become Junior club Champions or Ambassadors for Girls Football.
Current satellite centre. The programme signposts players to the local clubs within
easy reach of their training venue as part of the progression. We work with Hull FC,
Sunderland, Newcastle, Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United and Sheffield United to
create opportunities for them to gain experience in competition through regional
events.
