Yrs 5 & 6 Boys’ Football (report by Mr Marsland – football coach)
A huge congratulations to our boys football team. They are this year's Middlewich Sports Partnership Football Champions.
After two previously successful weeks, the boys won their final league match 8-0 with goals from Joe Hamilton (5), Regan Johnson, Jamie
Campbell and Sam Ellison. This left them top of the league and in the Final Play-off against a potentially strong Wimboldsley side who
finished second in the league. Cledford played superbly and won that match 6-0 with goals from Sam (2), Jamie, Regan, Josh Hardman and an
own goal. They were presented with the Winners’ Cup and received a well deserved ovation from everyone present.
Overall, in this tournament, our team won all their matches, scoring 26 goals, without conceding any. But this only tells part of the story... our
players showed fantastic skill and sportsmanship throughout every game. They had a wonderful team spirit - supporting and encouraging
everyone else at all times. They also had a great belief in their own ability, and what can be done if you work hard.
Those who played in the tournament were:
Ellis Burrows: Showed lots of skill and accurate passing. Ellis' determination made several good chances for the team.
Dylan Walklate: As always, Dylan worked hard and made some important runs with the ball to support the attack.
Jamie Campbell: Jamie scored some great goals from distance, and his solid tackling and accurate crossing set up goals for his team mates.
Peter Hare: Peter made himself some good opportunities and was unlucky not to score, but was always in the thick of it when the team were
going forward.
Jack Sharratt: Made some important saves in the early games and kept clean sheets throughout the tournament. Jack's distribution of the
ball was brilliant and helped the team score on the break several times.
Anthony Donohue: Anthony was solid in defence. No one got past him. His tackling was outstanding.
Josh Hardman: Josh was fearless in defence and his distribution was excellent. He also scored two great goals.
With Jack, Anthony and Josh in defence, the rest of the team had confidence, and could relax and play with style.
Alex Rudgley: Alex showed his incredible energy in each game. He won the ball and made precise, accurate passes to setup many goals.
Unlucky not to score himself.
Joe Hamilton: Showed amazing skill and balance in every game. Joe played really well on both sides of the pitch. He scored 12 goals including
FIVE in one game.
Regan Johnson: Regan showed his great pace and control in all the games. He scored some very good goals and created many more.
Sam Ellison: Sam captained the team perfectly. He organised, covered and supported his team mates. He worked really hard against the
opposition defences and scored some important goals.
The whole team are a credit to Cledford.
I would like to say to the team how very proud I am of your achievement and behaviour during all the matches. I know that your parents,
teachers and Mrs Booth all feel the same. Well done boys.
